how do you make friends? i kno you talk but what do you talk about? like i want to be the first friend of this japanese exchange student but she can only understand japanese. i don't know japanesse. also, i feel super dumb when communicating with her. i really feel..... wierd. worst of all, she is my science project partner. everytime we talk to each other, our faces seem to say, huh?!? to each other! what should i do?

Hm, Was it really a good idea to put someone who only understands Japanese with someone who doesn't know Japanese, as science partners? Or is it she understands some English? I'm kinda confused.

ganbatte ne = good luck
watashi wa nihongo wakarimasen = I don't understand japanese watashi nihongo o shabenai = I don't speak japanese
e-go o kudasai = please in english
watachitachi wa tomodachi desu ka? = are we friends?
I think if you show interest in her language she will maybe try a bit too ^^

Wow. It´s cool that she´s Japanese and all, but I didn´t know that they exchanged kids who couldn´t speak any of the language of the place they were traveling to. How is she supposed to do well in school? gonk

Hmm... Maybe try to help each other out, like study up on a bit of the basic words in Japanese, and then maybe try to help her by showing her what somethings are in english, if you are comfortable teaching her a bit of english, and like i said, studying up on a bit of her language always helps! You can get books, or even look on the internet. =D
I had that problem in art. I had a partner that spoke some language, because she just moved from a foreign country (i dont remember which.. and what language), but luckily she had a small english vocabulary, but it was still hard to communicate. >.<

Well, I don't know if it would suit you...but if I happened to be an exchange student who didn't understand the laungage, I'd think it be super sweet if someone drew me something. ^ ^ Like a smiley face, or maybe even a mythical creature...anything, honestly.
But, it's all up to you. That's just my wackywoah approach there.
