Following the tip, Shouko procured a tin of peanuts, along with a chocolate bar Teagan probably hadn't even known he had, and two bowls that she rinsed out just to be on the safe side. Routing through the drawers produced two clean spoons. She scooped the ice cream into the bowls, topped it with peanuts and chocolate wedges, and put the tub back in the freezer.
She picked up the bowls and spoons, left the kitchen, and carefully stepped back over to the couch. She gave Teagan a bowl and sat down next to him.
"When you're feeling better you need to come over to HQ one night and I'll cook decent food for you."

"Yeah," he said quietly as he took the bowl, a sudden twisting in his stomach at the sight, "I'd like that. Maybe I could fix some stuff up around there." He pushed the peanuts around in the ice cream, frowning a bit. With a breath he took a bite, finding it didn't taste so vile as the alcoholic aftertaste made him think it would.

"It's weird around there," replied Shouko. "All the parents come by and I have to be the one to put on a happy face and explain it all to them. Some of them seem a bit incredulous that a teenager can run the whole thing."
She tapped her spoon against a chocolate wedge thoughtfully. "Somehow the greenhouse got fixed - was that you? A little rabbit boy and his father were there last week planting a garden."
She took a bit of ice cream and swallowed, still pensive.
"I feel like the mother hen."

"Yeah, I thought it could use some patching," he said quietly, staring past her to the wall, "Got lonely here, but you weren't there so I just worked until it got dark." He stretched his legs out then tucked them in close, trying not to push her.

"You did a good job," replied Shouko with a smile. "It doesn't leak any more." She pushed a peanut around in her bowl for a bit and then set it aside.
"I think the roof of headquarters leaks, though," she murmured, tucking her feet under her folded legs.

He shoved a heaping spoonful of ice cream into his mouth and swallowed hard, cringing when it gave him brain freeze. "I-" he stammered, growling a bit under his breath while the pain subsided, "I can fix it for you, if you'd like." When he sobered up of course.

"Thank you," said Shouko as she watched him cringe. She laughed. "Don't eat so fast - you'll make yourself sick."
