Chandra''s eyes widened as Mik got so much closer to the flute. His sudden serious attention made her nervous and a couple notes in a row came out flat before she caught herself.
She wondered why he seemed so very interested in the flute. Children seemed to like the music she played, but they were never seemed so... discriminating.
As she neared the end of the simple tune, she wondered whether she should attempt to move to something else or just stop there.

Mik didn't seem to be bothered overly much by the flat notes. He seemed to have noticed them, but only in passing, and his smile grew over the course of the music until he clapped when she finished and mewled and reached for her. Oh, how he loved a musician. It wasn't the notes at all, but the feeling behind them that mattered. His fingers wiggled out towards her, causing Raife to muse at how uncharacteristically bold and clingy he was for someone he barely knew.

Chandra offered Mik a rare smile, just barely quirking up the corners of her mouth for a moment. She stowed the flute back into her skirt however, before reaching one hand back out to touch Mik's fingers with her own.
"You make a lovely audience, child."
She wondered what he would have made of the other flute - of it's favorite haunting lullabye - but she didn't have it with her, so there was no way to tell whether he would even be able to tell the difference. Instead she took her hand away from its slight contact with his and ruffled the fluff he had around the neck of his jacket.
"I have fluff too," Chandra said, pointing to the cloak she had hung on the coat rack by the door and the white feathered ruff that coated the neckline. "And I used to have wings," she said. "Small white ones, a lot like yours."
She still missed them sometimes even though they had served no real purpose in her life. Her back twitched a bit at the memory and she withdrew her hand to scratch the back of her neck briefly.

Mik fluffed his wings and preened, craning his neck to look to where she pointed at her fluffy cloak. He reached out with eager fingers, wanting to explore Chandra's fluff. It looked like his...he didn't understand quite what she said, but he coincidentally wondered if she'd lost her wings too. He turned and peered around, trying to look at her back for any sign of feathers or wings or the like, burbling curiously. He clapped his hands again and picked at his feathers a bit, as if to reassure himself that the fake wings were still in place.

Correctly interpreting Mik's reaching for her cloak, Chandra stood and made her way over to lift it off the coat rack. She draped it over one arm and then brought it back over to the couch, where she kneeled and presented the fluffy ruff to Mik.
"I have always had my ruff," she said, knowing he couldn't possibly understand her. "It is very comforting and soft."

Chandra Trouble Correctly interpreting Mik's reaching for her cloak, Chandra stood and made her way over to lift it off the coat rack. She draped it over one arm and then brought it back over to the couch, where she kneeled and presented the fluffy ruff to Mik.
"I have always had my ruff," she said, knowing he couldn't possibly understand her. "It is very comforting and soft." Mikhael pressed his face into the soft ruff, mewling a bit. It was comforting. He nestled into it, becoming even more of a ball of cloth and fluff, buried in his own jacket and hers. His little head popped out from inbetween the feathers and he smiled, burbling his happiness at Chandra. She was quite nice, letting him see her fluff and all! His fingers delicately took his jacket and hers in their hands, and offered both to Chandra to touch. Turnabout was fair play, afterall!

Chandra gently reached out a hand and ruffled the fluff on Mik's jacket. It was very soft and she couldn't help but enjoy the sensation. She loved the ruff on her own cloak and how she could pull it up around her face if she wanted, hiding in its comfort.
"Very soft," she said softly to Mik.
And then regretfully, she pulled her hand away and placed it on her own cloak.
"I probably should leave," she said, more to Raife than Mik. "But I am sure we will meet again Mik."
She tugged lightly on her cloak, pulling it towards her.

Mikhael let go of the cloak, and sensing the teen's upcoming departure, whined softly and reached out to her, his fingers wiggling with urgency. For some reason, he didn't want Chandra to go. Maybe it was her calming presence or maybe the flute song, or maybe the shared fluff, but he looked about ready to cry, and she hadn't even moved away yet.

Oh dear, this was one of those thins about children that Chandra didn't like and didn't understand. They were always crying, something she had trouble doing even when the situation warranted it.
"Oh," she said, her mouth in a perfect 'O' and her eyes widening. "I guess I do not have to leave." She stopped pulling on the cloak and froze in place.
Pulling the flute back out from its hidden pocket, she looked Mik in the eyes.
"One more," she said firmly, holding up her index finger to show him what she meant. "One."

"I'm sorry, I don't know what's come over him.." Raife murmured, blinking curiously. "He's usually not like this at all. Rather wellbehaved for a child his age, actually." She looked down at her charge with a dumbfounded expression, then at Chandra. Was it something about this young woman? Maybe it really was just the flute. It was hard to tell.
Mikhael nodded, understanding the principle of 'one more' as it applied to bedtime stories. He was smart for his age, even if he couldn't speak. He stuck his fingers in his mouth thoughtfully, curled up amongst the feathers and fluff and watched her expectantly.

With a absent nod to Raife, Chandra brought the flute to her lips. She was willing to believe that Mik didn't normally cry, since he seemed so quiet and agreeable before she had tried to leave.
She wasn't sure what to play for him, since she had already played her best piece. There was a lullaby in the book of simple tunes she had picked up and although she hadn't practiced it much, she could recall the majority of the melody.
The beginning was lost to her, so she simply started playing from where she remembered - improvising where she lost the melody. She had enough of a musical ear, so it wasn't terrible - but it was clearly not a polished piece.

Mikhael started out the song listening intently as he had before, but soon the lullaby caught him a bit, and his eyelids slowly fluttered a bit to a lazy half-mast, sleepy-baby position. His fingers clutched at the ruff and his own hood and he curled up tighter among them, his body relaxing a bit, sleepy hands reaching out towards the sound of the music and the producer of said music.
Raife watched quietly, with interest. She'd known that Mikhael was drawn very strongly to music, but she'd never seen him react like this to a stranger.
