A lone nest sits in a corner of the house. The only signs there's life inside (to those unaccquainted with technology) is the feeling of warmth off the object, and the tiny pulse flickering under the artificial shell.

Not much was happening. Then again not much had happened. The day was light and calm, the weather outside a stark contrast to the warm interior of the house.

Must be like inside the egg. Drac mused. Snug and warm and safe, protected and oblivious to the outside world.

The egg seemed to react a bit under her touch. To her presence, or something else? Before she thought about what she was doing the egg was craddled in her lap.

Humming a soft lulaby the woman rocked back and forth slowly as the fire danced away in the hearth. The egg seemed to grow a bit warmer with the carm, seeming to radiate a more peaceful tone like a sleeping child.

The night slipped away with the dragonkinn woman sleeping with the egg held safely in her lap.

Event! Your Egg has been removed from the incubator.

With a noticable air of worry- or perhaps, unease- Zaxzi steps into the room you have currently occupied and folds his wings. There is no time to question how he entered the room, your home, this secure location- he is simply there, and he begins to speak.

"The eggs have begun to emerge from the incubators. This is the second stage your egg will reach- it is still impressionable and easy to damage, but the shell is harder and the cub has gained the ability to take care of itself, somewhat. It no longer requires the artificial heat of the incubator, but it is also no longer protected by it- be very careful what you subject it to. Strong magic of any kind should be avoided at this stage...and may your God help you if I find you've mistreated it."

With that...optomistic message, the Seer turns and leaves your presence.

Smiling Drac hummed her lullaby with one ear pressed to the egg's shell. She could swear the baby inside was reacting to the music. Well, she'd believe it anyway.

The pard that had arrived when it was ready to come out of it's incubator had been more than a bit ..... stuffy, but if this was what resulted then she was fine with the occasional visit. Thankfully her own magics weren't very stong, simple shifting and a natural immunity to fire weren't exactly big deals in the magical community.

Shrugging a bit she went back to humming her song and rocking the egg.

With temperatures outside dropping like a stone keeping the egg warm had started to become a bit of an issue. Not that the house wasn't nice and warm, but the egg seemed to get chilled a bit faster than it should.

The dragonkinn woman couldn't help but smile whenever she caught sight of her adopted son nestling the egg up against his side as he tried to read by firelight. Devi had a natural love of animals and that had definately extended to the pard egg. Now when she wasn't looking he'd slip downstairs when he couldn't sleep, pull out one of the books he'd started trying to read and curl up on his cushion with the egg at his side.

She was never worried about the egg's safety, Devi had an uncommonly gentle touch when it came to any sort of infant creature. Now she stood at the doorway to the livingroom. Devi had been changed to a human yet again, but he seemed to have found something to keep him content in the time he was stuck as such. Children. Oddly enough he enjoyed helping to take care of those younger than him, and took great pride in making them happy. So he sat there in his human form, pouting a bit but still cradling the egg against his side, the blue blanket he treasured wrapped around them both. Drac couldn't not help but smile with pride.

Devi was reading with the egg against his side. His ears kept flicking towards it, wondering what might hatch out of such a thing. He knew it wouldn't be a bird. Or at least a normal one at any rate.

"What are you going to be? Are you going to be male or female? Are you going to be quiet or loud? What are you going to be?"

The only answer from the egg was silence.

Drac and Devi were asleep downstairs, curled up on one of the overlarge cushions kept in the living room. Between them was the egg. It seemed to do better when it was close to living bodies, not just heat, at night. S the duo decided to nurture the egg.

In the wee hours of the morning there was a shudder and a soft crack. It was not a great explosion of a hatching, but a soft and subtle welcome to the world. Drac went through the motions of aiding a hatch without waking. The shell came away and tail used to warm and dry the damp little bundle.

Blinking open it's eyes for the first time it looked at the pale fa'e child and bumped his nose to the boy's. Devi mumbled a bit and then an odd word came to his lips, Riodan. The pard concidered the name ad decided it liked it. Licking the boy's face a few times he settled under his arm to sleep and greet a new day in the morn.

Crashing sounds echoed through the house before a yell followed by a door banging. Devi raced around teh yard, trailing his new tail ornament. A rather intent pardling.

Riodan's little wings were flared and flapping, a firm hold kept on the end of Devi's tail. Growling with his own tail flicking he was having a marvelous time. Such a wonderful sparklie toy!

Finally Devi gave up and flopped on the spring grass. Riodan promptly attached himself to Devi's back and began grooming the boy's hair with his sandpaper tongue. Devi cringed and just went with it. He did make a disgusted sound when the pardling found his tipped ear adn started sucking on it. Yuck! Hopefully Rio'd grow out of it. It wasn't likely.

In the time Devi was gone Rio had been following Drac's heels almost constantly. The worst part was when she'd wake up in the middle of the night to a weird feeling on her foot. Particularly her big toe. There seemed a rather large lump under the covers by her feet.

Throwing back the covers she saw little Rio, purring happily, sucking on her big toe.

"Of good lord. I can't wait until Devi gets back and reclaims you."

Rio just purred and kept on sucking away like a kitten.

"So many different things have happened. I can't remember them all. Does that even matter?"

The pard looked out upon the ground of the Hollow. So much had changed. Nearly a year had gone by since he'd been hatched and he'd grown fast. Things were always changing. The small centaur he'd attached himself to as a cubling had grown. He'd never be as big as the blue and white male, but that wasn't a worry. Devmani was meant to be that big, that imposing upon first glance.

That hadn't stopped him from worrying when he'd vanished months back, only to reappear breifly and then move out. He'd become too large for the house. Not in size but in maturity. He needed his own place.

It was nice. Not as close as he'd have liked it, but close enough that he didnt' have to worry about getting stuck one place or another.

And the other boy the furred woman had adopted, Lonan. He was an enigma. Winged but blind, strong voiced but silent. He didn't like crowds much. Or humans. But he seemed fine with his presence. It was comforting to just be able to spend time with someone and not have to do anything but sit in companionable silence. He liked the boy.

"Where do I go from here?"

The sun was warm on his rock making the air shimmer in waves. He had slight tricks of the eye where he'd see his reflection in the wavering air. A soft purr rumbled through him at that. It was a neat trick.

Then there was something taht didn't just vanish. A full-sized shadow that looked like a male pard. He jumped up, startled. A shadow with no body. As soon as he took a very close look it started to waver and fade.

Concidering that for a moment he concentrated and the form came back. He stepped closer to the apparition, swiping at it with a paw. There was nothing there to feel. Curious he inspected the shadow with out a body. Testing things again he looked elsewhere and then back. Only a faint remnant remained of the shadow.

How very..... odd.
