This past weekend, I got the opportunity through my college to work as an overhire in a big professional traveling production of The Producers this past Saturday. I'm still exhausted, but I still can't believe that I got to have a hand in a professional touring show as a costume assistant. I'm still sort of waiting for it all to sink in.
The highlight for me (besides that glorious check that'll be coming to my mailbox in a month or so) was the head of costumes coming to me and thanking me personally for being the only person willing to step up and hand-repair the costumes that were ripped. I personally feel really honored to have my stitches on tour with the show. It gives me the warm and fuzzies. ^_^
So now that I've experienced my first foray in the world of professional theatre, I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks. Has anybody else had overhire experience? Touring experience? Was it good? Bad? AWFUL? Share your stories!

I was suppose to do the load out for the "Chicago" tour last weekend but I had a late rehearsal for my own show so I couldn't do it.
Our tech director here is in the local union and they are always looking for people on load ins and outs for the touring shows. I have not had the time to do any yet, though I've gotten offers for Chicago as I mentioned and Hairspray, but my two friends actually got their own union cards on working on those kinds of things.
