I know I don't get out much but they are the most fun things I have ever seen! I'ts this machine that has a metal ball on top that generates static electricity. My science teacher has a giant 5 foot one and will shock you from 4 feet away! Theres a couple websites I found, tell me if you find better ones.

When I was in high school we had one of those machines.
They were a lot of fun.

There so fun. I love how you pour cornstarch on it and it freezes in mid air.

Our class made one and it was about 6 feet tall. It sparked us from feet away! No one wanted to go near it to unplug it. XP
