One word that will most definitely describe this young-looking girl is : blue. Yes, blue. Her hair is silver blue, it trailing down her mid-back. Two criss-crossing clips are pinned to one side of her hair, keeping a few strands from falling down her face. It doesn't stop her bangs though, which cover her forehead - or most of it - reaching to the top of her eyes. Speaking of her eyes, they are a bright blue color, quite big making her look quite young. Add the pink-ish cheeks, the wide grin she usually has on, the round face and she will be mistaken for someone younger ... fourteen, perhaps.
Young... It really will be the first thing that comes into one person's mind when they first see her. Standing at more or less 5 feet, her figure is something one won't even think could be a captain. Yuki is well... fairly short. Shorter than most captains, shorter than even her lieutenant! Of course, this little fact should not be mentioned in her face unless you want to be frozen for a long long long amount of time. Yes, she's very touchy on the subject of her height and would resort to violence upon hearing someone make a few . . . not-so-nice comments on said subject. Of course, that is, unless one can beat her in terms of speed. Not such an easy task. With her light frame, Yuki is definitely one of the people quite adept at shunpo, the only form of kido she fully mastered. She may not be able to beat whoever was called 'the god of flash' but she can be able to beat others. Of course, being a captain, it's expected.
Speaking of captain, Yuki, too, wears the standard shinigami robe, much like everyone else. A white kosode is placed beneath a black kimono. Matching the kimono is a black hakama that falls down her ankles, a white obi tied to her waist. Unlike other shinigami - excluding the captains - Yuki has a white, sleeveless haori over the usual black clothing, the insignia of her division at the back. She has made some modifications to this, though. Her hands are covered with black, fingerless gloves, usually needed whenever she holds her Zanpakuto seeing its handle is quite different. Another is a rope which is wrapped around her waist which holds her Zanpakuto. It is placed at her left side - seeing Yuki takes out her Zanpakuto using her right hand - is a black sheath which holds her weapon. Of course, said weapon is not only taken out during a fight but also during times when she gets into little... arguments with Hyouryuu.
When she's in the real world, however, Yuki's choice of clothes is practically anything she's given... as long as they're loose-like. She hates running around in tight clothes, finding them too annoying and too much of a burden. Add the stuffiness of the gigai to that. Also, she had always been quite accustomed to loose clothes what with her shinigami outfit and the kimono she used to wear were pretty much loose on her body. Yes, she tends to stick to things she's accustomed to but then again, she loves trying out new things... her curiosity gets to the better of her at times. —— p e r s o n a l i t y »
[// the not-so-good things ]
She looks like a child but does she act like one? To put it simply : Yes. She does quite a lot. First off, there's the glomping. It's always with the glomping, especially to people she really knows and is very close to - minus people she gets scared to glomp. Most of the time, Yuki is quite a courageous person, though, moving headlong into danger whenever some enemy - no matter how threatening - would come up in front of her. She acts before she thinks and had always been like that, acting on impulse rather than rational thinking. Of course, Yuki makes up a plan at times and that's only during ambushes or when she's ordered to go out into the real world to ... do something. Defeat some sort of threat or go look for things the sotaicho wants her to look for. Being in charge of the outer world's defense she does have to go out and check on things and the like.
Speaking of the real world, she tends to become very excited at the prospect of going there. She hasn't been there much what with the other members of the division being the ones to go there. Having been in the Gotei 13 for decades, Yuki had found out that most of the higher ranked shinigami stay in Seireitei while the rest go off into the real world. She didn't find it fair. At all. Yuki is the type of person who prefers adventure and fighting over sitting around behind her desk doing paperwork [ not killing, though. Yuki despises irrelevant bloodshed ]. Oh, yes, she's easily bored. Give her paperwork, sitting there for just twenty minutes she will exaggerate, saying she's been a gazillion years sitting there already and bored, wanting to do something. She's lazy as well, trying to find some way to skip out on work... mainly, pushing said work to her lieutenant. The above can be quite - no wait, very - annoying.
Speaking of annoying, another trait would be her stubborn side. She doesn't shut up unless the person she argues with would give in to her opinion. Yes, she can be quite argumentative and when in that state of mind, she fully abolishes her childish side and replaces it with a serious/scary one. Another time her scary-ness would appear would be when she is woken up forcefully. Oh, yes, one should never even think of making her wake up no matter the cause because she will be ... very very scary.
[// the nicer things]
Despite the flaws and whatnot, Yuki does have her good side as well. Take her stubborn-ness as an example. With that trait, she can't easily be swayed by mere talking. Of course she does tend to be easily bribed with sweets yet not from enemies she knows are ... enemies. She does some sensible thinking, too. A little contradicting, yes, but it mostly depends on the situation at hand. Oh, and she's quite loyal to Seireitei. Having been raised there, being taught to do this and that, seeing what the other Shinigami can do, her loyalty to Seireitei is something that can not be easily broken no matter how many sweets are shown in her face.
Another would be her being very determined. Once she sets her mind on one thing, she will not stop unless she gets it, hence she always completes her mission and would forever sulk if she fails to complete one. So far, she hasn't had one mission she couldn't complete yet there could come a time she would fail. How she dreads that day... if it will ever come. Which is why, Yuki practices with her father... although she always did practice with her father. She doesn't practice with anyone else, what with that training session being tiresome enough for her. Yuki is serious whenever she's training with her father or even in normal times with her father. She doesn't have the cheerful personality nor the hyperactive-ness. Real battles, however, depend on the situation.
During real battles, Yuki is either serious or arrogant. Serious upon facing quite a dangerous - or an enemy she knows is dangerous. She usually starts out as arrogant, though, yet not to the point of underestimating them... Okay, she does have her 'underestimating another person' times but it doesn't happen that much. Looking back at that, it makes one really wonder how a person like that ever became a captain. —— h i s t o r y »
• f a m i l y .||
It was mid-December when a child of the Amane family was born. Wrapped around a soft, white cloth was the couple's young bundle of joy, the only descendant of the family. The woman held this newborn baby close to her, a weak smile on her face. Even though it was a fairly weak smile one could tell she was extremely happy at the prospect of having this daughter of hers. The same can be said for the man who was sitting beside the woman, smiling and attempting to touch their child. These two were Amane Yuki's parents.
Her mother, Arumi, was a sweet lady, a smile on her face. She would walk around the streets of Rukongai, going about her business yet would stop upon seeing a person who needed help. She was nice and thoughtful of others yet she was sickly. There were various times she would suddenly get sick and not be able to move from her bed and other times she just... Got sick. Her so-called 'family' in Rukongai were worried, of course. What was wrong with the poor girl? Why was she sick so much? They found the answer upon seeing her with a wooden sword. She was training very hard... Just to get in the Shinigami Academy.
The father was a distinguished figure among the people of Seireitei. He was of noble blood, although not one of those in the Four Great Noble Families. They lived in Seireitei, though, despite this fact, seeing her father was a seated officer long before although Yuki had never known if he had played quite a role before. All she really knew of was his grand speaking skills, Amane Keichi never failing to win against those who oppose him through words... Of course, it wasn't the same with his Zanjutsu. He was strong, yes, yet he could never attain his Bankai. None knew why, even he himself, although he had been training for quite some time already. He couldn't even get into a lieutenant rank. Oh, how dissatisfied he was yet it wasn't for a few years after that he changed. Back in his days as a student, however, he was slightly different from who he is at present. Keichi was soft-spoken and shy, a blush usually on his face. He was one who wouldn't go near a person first but would rather wait for the person to go near him. He was smart, though, that made his situation worse, add the whole 'being in a noble family' yet not too many people knew of that. A certain person did, though, and that was Arumi Miyuzaki.
They met each other in class, both in the special class. To put it simply, they started hanging out, got to know each other and soon enough, became a couple after they both became Shinigamis. A few years after that, came Yuki.
• c h i l d h o o d .||
As stated before, Keichi was dissatisfied with his Zanpakuto as well as himself. He wanted to be stronger yet he was growing old. He was unlike the sotaicho, Yamamoto Genryuusei, who was old, yes, yet still very very strong. Slowly, his ambitions grew, wanting his family to be a part of the great noble ones. Hence, he trained Yuki after she learned the basics of life such as walking, speaking, etc. As expected, she was extremely young yet somehow she kept up with his training. She was trained to be a Shinigami, one who could surpass everyone else. Her training consisted mostly on Zanjutsu seeing that's the part her father failed in.
As she turned five - in human years, that is - Keichi hired someone to train her in all aspects, Kido and Zanjutsu mainly. Yuki excelled in Zanjutsu yet failed in Kido. The only form of Kido she ever mastered was shunpo and nothing else. Maybe the constant Byakurai [ white lightning ] or other offensive spells she uses yet not that fast nor powerful. This flaw was her biggest hindrance in becoming a captain yet eventually she overcame it. She had discovered her Zanpakuto's name at that point, harnessing her Shikai.
• s h i n i g a m i - a c a d e m y .||
When she was of age, she attended the Shinigami Academy, placing herself in the special class. Like her father, none knew of her noble blood and she was thankful for it, finding it easier to socialize with the rest of the class. She was the top, though, of the entire level, seeing she had already achieved Shikai as well as her Bankai. Yes, Bankai. After a few weeks in the Shinigami Academy, her father had pushed her to gain her Bankai. She trained and trained in a remote area, soon achieving Bankai. She didn't master it then, though, thus her training continued. This achievement she tried to not show much yet somehow, word spread of this. How hard it was then to talk to them. They found her a show-off and one who loves attention when in fact, she despises these. True, she's outgoing and the like and does tend to like attention yet not like... That. For one entire year, she was lonely, no one wanting to talk to her no matter how she excelled and no matter how many teachers praised her. Except for one person, though.
He was older in age than she was like most of the people around her. He, too, was in the top class, one who was silent and refusing to talk to anyone. Dark, messy hair sat atop his head, light purple eyes matching it. His name was Saito Haru, one who lived in the 68th district of Rukongai. He had travelled to the Shinigami Academy upon discovering he had spiritual powers. he was accepted into the special class much like Yuki and was exceptional in both Kido and Zanjutsu. It was then that he met Yuki.
It was the first day of a new year in the academy. Yuki was sitting in the room, her hands on the table, her feet not touching the floor even a little. How she hated being short. It made her feel so... short! Like an ant! She placed her head on the table, contemplating on how short she was and thinking of a way to get herself be all tall and the like. Jumping, maybe? No, that won't work. how about stretching herself?
"Noo that won't work either," she muttered to herself, quite louder than she wanted. It was then that she noticed someone was actually sitting beside her as he said, "Can you please shut up?" It was a boy's voice, namely Haru. He was sitting beside her all that time and she didn't notice! How blind could she get? Her initial reaction was shock, almost falling off her seat. Gladly no one was there for they were out ... probably looking for their friends and whatnot. Did that mean this one doesn't have friends of his own? Like herself? He seemed like one who would rather not talk with anyone, reading away on that book he carried.
"What do you want?" he asked, rudely. So it seems like he noticed her looking at him. It wasn't her fault she stares off at times, getting lost in her own world. A nervous smile crossed her face, her hand behind her head as she said, "Nothing, nothing. Ah! I'm Amane Yuki! And you are?"
He didn't reply. He only raised an eyebrow, closing his book and saying, "Amane? Aren't you that kid before who got her Bankai?" Of course, this shocked her. How did he know of such a thing? Were the rumors really spreading that fast? Then again, he was in the special class and almost everyone in that class knew about it. Ah well. She just nodded a little, watching him watch her still with the raised eyebrow. "You don't look strong."
Well, that was one big blow to her ego. See, Yuki always had this pride and being called 'not looking strong' was one thing she will not tolerate. Oh, how much she despises people calling her weak just because of her height [ which, in fact, he didn't say anything about at all ]. In her annoyance, of course, she started shouting at him, saying how much she wasn't short and how she could easily look strong when she wanted to be. He had gone back to reading his book, ignoring her and the rest of the world, muttering something about how he doesn't care about her achieving her Bankai and all and that she was just like anyone else - stupid and annoying. Yuki was, well, surprised at his reaction. Normal people would just say how much she was showing off not... say that [ which wasn't even meant to be something nice ].
Yes, that was how they met and that was when Yuki started following him. She followed him, he didn't mind and they just started hanging out with one another. Yuki treated him like an older brother as he treated her like a sister, saying something about how he had a sister back in the human world. The two were opposites, one was serious and cold while the other was cheerful and friendly yet they complimented each other perfectly. Haru knew somehow what Yuki wanted and Yuki was just, well... Yuki, being amusing in her own silly way. If it wasn't for him, Yuki wouldn't have decided to finish studying in the academy and would've been recruited to the Gotei 13 immediately upon information on her Bankai was revealed to them. They were rarely apart, Haru even being there when she trains [ except for early morning trainings. he's lazy like that ]. Only during times when they had separate missions and during vacations were they separated which were rare times. Haru's death separated both of them, though... for a long, long time.
It was a practical exam. They were to defeat Hollows near a remote area, ones not weak yet not strong enough, either. Certain shinigami were assigned to different areas, overlooking the teams. Haru and Yuki were teamed together, only the two seeing they knew of Yuki's bankai and found her more than capable.
• e x a m .||
The two were assigned to an area, wide with trees surrounding them, two buildings near them. Haru was strong, yet not as strong as Yuki, but in a few years' time would be enough to be even a seated officer. He was adept at Kido as much as Yuki was in Zanjutsu. Hence, the balance between them was smooth. Both emitted strong reiatsu, however, which in turn would attack more than enough Hollows to their vicinity. The two quickly wiped them clear, though, moving in swift motions.
Yuki swung down an unreleased Hyouryuu, piercing the creature's white mask, making it dissipate. This menial task was easy for her. They should see how much her sensei pushed her to be extremely strong. She swung her Zanpakuto over shoulder and smiled at her work. "Ne, Haru-chan!" she said, a smile on her face as she twirled around to see her friend, "Let's... Haru-chan?"
He was gone. Haru was gone from the clearing, nothing in sight behind herself. How did that happen? Where was he? She started worrying. She couldn't sense his reiatsu as much as she could before. It wasn't flaring to indicate he was in a fight. Yuki focused, trying to find him. A light flare. She followed it into the forest, away from the place they were supposed to gather together. It was none of her concern, though. She knew Soul Society - or rather, the first two districts - like the back of her palm and would easily find her way back in.
She called him. No reply. She tried a few more times. Still no reply. She sensed him closer, though and followed that trail. How shocked she was upon seeing Haru, his eyes glazed, staring up at one leviathan Hollow, its hands no longer hands but tentacles. An evil grin was displayed on its lips, hunger clearly shown. It opened its mouth, revealing two rows of sharp, pointed teeth, glistening with saliva. Haru wasn't doing anything even as the Hollow was nearing him, slowly.
She felt something cold and sharp hit her right foot. Looking downward, she found deep red liquid dripping down her feet, onto her black clothing. The tentacle slipped away from her. He found her, the Hollow. She didn't know how he did but maybe ... her face was too visible from where he was? Even when hidden - or at least, trying to hide herself - between the huge trees. Yuki wouldn't let it eat her best friend, though. As it leaned in, almost devouring Haru in that open mouth of his, she shunpoed her way in front of him, her Zanpakuto unsheathed as she blocked the attack. It had its own consequences however, such as the stab in her shoulder, making her wince in pain. The pain didn't stop her from defeating it, though, slashing her katana upward its mask, making it disappear as well as getting Haru back to normal. Yet, she was tired, her body sore as she fainted, Haru catching her quickly before she hit the ground.
Her eyes were closed yet she was awake. She didn't know what happened but she was already lying on something soft, something just as soft on top of her. Yuki felt better physically yet something still felt wrong. She could hear footsteps and a number of shouts coming from outside. Opening her eyes, she found herself in a room, the sliding door closed. Shinigami? Where was she? She sat upright and it was then that the door opened, revealing her mother, a look of worry on her face.
"Ah... Okasa-!"
"Kiii-chan!"
Ah, how over-reacting can her dear mother get? Before she could even finish saying her own sentence, her mother had wrapped her arms around her in a hug. Seems like she was alright again... And worried. Very worried and angry at her for risking her own life. As if Yuki couldn't handle it. Oh, her wounds? They seemed to have been bandaged by someone, probably a doctor or something. Oh yes, where was Haru?
"Okaasan... I'm alright, see?" she said, grinning at her weeping mother. Looking around the room, she said, "Ne, have you seen Haru-chan?" At these words, her mother's face turned sad. She knew Haru, of course, seeing Yuki talked about him and had once brought him over. Arumi was fond of him, yes, and the look in her eyes were as if she had just lost a child. "I'm sorry, Yuki... He... Haru died."
• g o t e i . t h i r t e e n .||
"I'm sorry, Yuki... He... Haru died."
She found out what happened. He was killed by a Hollow. He had gone back to the place they were supposed to go, his motive unclear. Guilt, maybe? That was what they thought and that was what they told Yuki. Because of his strong reiatsu, Hollows nearby flocked and he just couldn't defeat them alone. One of the shinigami found him, fighting them yet on the brink of being defeated. He tried to save him. It was too late. It wasn't only him that died that day. Four others did as well, all students. It was a very wrong idea to have let them go that day. A very wrong idea.
Yuki was depressed after hearing the story. She no longer attended the Academy but told her father she would rather train and try mastering her Zanpakuto. He agreed. A few days after, she was recruited into the Gotei 13, quickly rising up in rank. It wasn't soon that the position for the tenth division captain was open that they quickly placed her to the spot, with the knowledge of her Bankai. She just let them be, giving her the position. How proud her mother was of her yet her father still wasn't contented. He wanted her to master her Bankai, he wanted her to be the best. She was tired of it, yes, yet she couldn't deny her father's wishes.

Hyouryuu
[// unreleased]
Yuki's Zanpakuto, Hyouryuu, looks much like the other katana. Each weapon has something distinct about them, though, that makes them different from the rest, Hyouryuu having this characteristic. Instead of a normal black hilt, Hyouryuu's hilt is black with a black ribbon hanging at the edge. The black ribbon surrounds the black hilt which has a different shade. The guard holds a flowery design, much like vines in every direction, carved onto the wooden, black square. The blade, aside from the normal silver color, is light blue - almost silver blue, in fact. It is quite light and somewhat short yet enough for Yuki herself.
[// released]
In its released state, Hyouryuu divides and becomes two different swords. The swords are completely identical to one another from the circle-shaped hilt to the diamond-shaped blade. The blade is still of a light-blue color, a stripe passing through the middle. Engraved on the stripe, in silver lettering by the use of Kanji is ‘Koori no Ryuu’ which also literally translates to Ice Dragon much like Hyouryuu does, glowing whenever released.
One other use of the blades, aside from it being ordinary twin blades, it can also serve as something else. By connecting both handles, the two swords will form something much like a boomerang, the blades on opposite ends of the handle.
[// the spirit ]
Hyouryuu, or Hyou-chan as Yuki calls him, possessed traits similar and not similar to Yuki. He is pessimistic, opposite to his wielder, preferring to exaggerate over small things. This doesn’t make him a coward, though. In truth, he is much more courageous than Yuki herself and possesses the same aggressive trait. Yes, he tends to be just like her, not thinking over things but rather, rushing straight into battle – or rather, telling her to rush straight into battle. Pretty much where she picked that little trait up. He is a rather immature person, loud and obnoxious but despite this fact, he hates it when others - especially Yuki - act immature. Quite a hypocrite, isn't he? He is, though, more mature than Yuki is so he has reasons to dislike Yuki's immature side.
Oh, yes, and he's quite talkative, speaking with Yuki whenever he wants... which is most of the time. Hyouryuu likes taking his shape, which is that of an older boy, looking to be around nineteen or twenty years old. His hair is messy, silver in color that stands everywhere. Matching his hair, are his steelblue eyes, small in shape compared to Yuki's. His skin is a pale color, although it could be a light flesh color as well. His clothing consists of a white coat, reaching up to his ankles. He usually just let it hangs on his back, though, rather than wearing it properly. Black goggles also hang on his neck, usually at the front. Yes, he, too, likes loose clothing, wanting nothing to burden him. His pale blue shirt, though, is nothing loose on his chest yet his black pants are nothing too loose yet nothing tight, either. For his feet, he wears white and black shoes, ones matching his pants perfectly.
—— a b i l i t i e s »
Yuki is not a master of Kido, definitely. Shunpo is her favorite, though, followed by a bunch of destructive spells yet said spells are weak when cast directly without the incantation. Hence, she relies more on her speed and swordsmanship, using Kido only when in dire need.
[// shikai]
Yuki's main ability is simple: manipulation and creation of ice. She has a main ability though, which is to freeze anything it touches or more specifically, whatever it pierces. This ability will only work when Hyouryuu pierces through the skin, freezing the person's body part. If the Zanpakuto pierces through one's shoulder, a block of ice will form, indicating its uselessness. Of course, the effect isn't permanent. It would fade away slowly after a while yet at that point, Yuki will aim for another part or simply defeat the enemy then.
Yuki can not only use the freezing ability on humans but anything else as well. One of her favorite techniques to use are making walls of ice in front of her through the use of the ground. How does that work? Well, as Yuki stabs the ground, she freezes what's below her and makes it come up, blocking whatever attacks may be used against her. She can also un-use the freezing ability, making her Zanpakuto seem like an ordinary blade.
[// bankai]
For her bankai, the first thing she usually does is create an entire dome out of ice. This dome is created by a rather large dragon, encircling the people and Yuki herself in a snowy environment. This certain environment is similar to a country full of snow, snow falling from what seems to be the sky yet is actually Hyouryuu's own body. Ice shoots up from the ground much like icicles glistening due to its crystallized form. The ground is slippery, making it hard to move yet Yuki has grown accustomed to this environment. It only works for an hour, though, after which, Hyouryuu condenses his form into a much smaller silver dragon, perching on Yuki's shoulder.
The concept of Hyouryuu's smaller form is much like Ichigo's, which is by condensing one's reiatsu in a smaller form, it will increase the person's power. In Yuki's case it increases her speed, such as in running and forming certain ice particles.
