I know getting a callous on your right thumb is common for clarinet players, but this is getting really annoying. Mine broke open followed by large amounts of pus (I know, gross!)
Now I need to know, should I just put a Band Aid on every time I use my clarinet, or should I buy some of that padding stuff? I tried this one black thing, but it didn't work anymore.
What should I try? Rubber? Etc?

Try getting a liquid bandaid. also make sure that you are not allergic to nickel or whatever it is that your thumb is resting on. If those two things do not work try getting a thumb saver from Music and Arts Center they are only around one dollar.

what works the best for me is i just buy a reglar old pencil gripper from the school for like twenty-five cents or whatever and cut it in half so it fits over the thumb rest.it works better than that stupid stuff you buy at the music store for five bucks. but liquid bandaid work when i started playing and it got all discusting like.
