First off, I will say this: I don't have a very common last name. Remember that.

I was reading Huck Finn for English class a few days ago and came across my last name, spelt slightly different. It really pissed me off. Not that it was my last name, but that it was spelt wrong and because I hate that book.

Today I was reading IT and came across my last name again, like a page after
Eddie Kaspbrak dies.
I was like, "Not again!" Then I was like, "Yay! It's in a good book this time!"

So my lovelies, what I want to know is if you have a similar story about finding you name/last name in a book. My first name is Emily so I find it in books a lot, but to find my rare last name in two books less than a week apart is really weird.

I have a common maiden name and a common married name, so for me it's no big deal. However, I was amused to find a picture book whose author had exactly the same name as my young daughter (she has a somewhat uncommon spelling for her first name).

For some reson, my name is always a minor character's name. Probably because my name is too common and authors want to be a bit more creative than that. However I have seen thousands of varriations of my last name IRL. For example, in my school alone, I know of three other people with my last name, spelled exactly the same none of whom I am related to. And one time, in summer school ( way back when.... God that was a long time ago) There where four other girls with my first name, so when the teacher did roll by first name he got a resounding "HERE" from what sounded like the whole room. Rather confusing. I guess I am just another face in the croud when it comes to name.

Well, my name is Devon. *points to username*
I was reading A Separate Peace for my AP English class, and there was the Devon school, the Devon river, Devon faculty.... Needless to say, I was a little perplexed. Then later, when I read The Shades of Simon Gray, there is a girl with the name Devin (spelled differently) but her physical character description fit me pretty well. What is funny is that her character is almost my antithesis.

What realy annoys me is in most books with characters with the sam name as me, Veronica, the character is usually mean or snobby and ussally poular. And always a somewhat minor character. I just finished reading Blue is for Nightmares and the character Veronica was popular and (spoiler)made up this story to try and steal one of the main character's boyfriends. And then she dies! I just wish i could read one book where there was a nice Veronica.

I've got a very common first name, so it appears in books from time to time. My last name, not so much, names close to it, can't read about politics in Missouri durring the Great Depression without coming across one of the variations of my last name.

I found out that a pretty popular graphic novel character has my same last name. I found out because a guy on Gaia took this character's name as his username, and when I saw him, I excitedly e-mailed him thinking he could be a long lost relative lol Then he told me he was named after a graphic novel character.
I've heard my first name mostly in movies, not so much in books.

My last name is so uncommon that I have never seen it anywhere except as my last name but some mouths ago I found two children's books by the same author (it was like a series) and guess what the title on the books was my name and my little sisters name (and they are quite rare)

My first name is extremely common, so it doesn't suprise me when I come across it in books. But my last name is so uncommon that there's only a small portion of the American population that has it.

I have a very uncommon lastname and I've never found it in a book. I have however, found a schoolmate's exact name in one of the Harry Potter books as a very, VERY obscure character.

Even though my name isn't anything fantastic, I've yet to find it in a book. I've only seen my surname twice before and that was in Harry Potter and The Queens Fool.
I've got such lovely names whee

There are only two people in the world who can spell my entire name exactly: My mother and me. Haven't found ANY semblance of my last name yet (though that doesn't surprise me), and my first name I've seen in movies but not books. My middle name was in The Dark Tower, though, spelt exactly the same, which is very odd.

I share the same first name as a certain vivacious/flirtatious Jane Austen character. My last name however I have yet to see (though I hear it a lot at Christmas time on t.v. for chocolate).
