OK, so I came past this whilst I was in a discussion yesterday and thought that it was very insightful.

Quote:
I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.

I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.

I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.

We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.

I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.

I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.

I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.

I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.

We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.

I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.

I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.

I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.

I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.

I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didnt have to always deal with society hating me.

I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I dont believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.

I know that many of the members of this guild see alternative sexualities as a mortal sin, but I can only hope that this post might open the window for a small breeze of empathy.

Discuss:

arrow Has this altered your perspective at all?
arrow Have you ever considered this sort of situation?
arrow Can we really justify this sort of treatment?

I'm a gay rights supporter. I have friends who are lesbian and bi and I boyfriend that is bi. I read somewhere that scientifcally speaking we are all bi because men and women both produce testoserone and estrogen in order to survive. Just one needs it more than the other and vice versa.

Hopefully this does cange people's minds on the issue. And brings light and hope to those who have been kicked out of their homes because of thier loved ones decision.

People don't realize that "All you need is love". We need to treat those who have been ostracized by the public. Our public. We need to start accepting them as people so thay future situations like these don't happen.

Unfourntunatly I fear that this day may never come seeing the sad state that we're in. We can't even accept those who are different from us because some idiot misinterpreted the Lord's word and is teaching the masses to hate those who need us the most.

I never looked at it that way.
I'm not sure if all those senarios are plausable, though, because I doubt personal prejudice would interfere with someone's job, like the realitor or paramedic. I know mine wouldn't.
I support gay rights, though I'm not entirely sure why. I just don't believe in prejudice or judgements.
That's really sad, though, but I like it.

I might not agree with they're life style (AKA I'm not gay), but I think it's fine if they want to live like that. That's why it's called America - we have freedom to think and act like we want (to an extent). If paramedics refuse to treat someone just because of their sexuality, then in my point of view that's murder. A minimum of 10 years in jail should change their minds. evil

I agree. I'm sorry to all Presbyterians (for two things, one if I misspelled that, two for what I'm about to say next), but the Bible says (Oh NOez!! hes bringing out dah big guns!!!) that God gave us free will to do what we want, without consequence until the end(aka, when we die)

Hmm... I don't hate gay people, I hate the fact that gayness exists. I don't go around killing / hating gay people and I don't treat gay people different to straight people. I don't understand why people (especially Christians) treat homosexuality as different to any other sin. Stealing is a sin too, and I don't hate everyone who steals things. I might lock my door if there's thieves around, but I wouldn't go around bashing them.

I think its awful how people treat gay/lesbians. That's like the only prejudice that hasn't been legally protected I think... (or at least that's what my civics teacher said). I don't think they're doing anything wrong, it's just the way they chose to live.

I respect both viewpoints, but not the way some people (coughcoughJackChickcoughcough) express it.
