I guess I just don't understand this form of hope. Why hope for something more after life, when you can hope for something better during life? I have hope, too. I hope I will be a better person than I am. I hope I will go back to school one day and fulfill my dream of studying anthropology. I hope my younger brother will grow up and stop being a...(insert your own word here because I can't think of anything good enough).

But I don't hope for things to be better after I'm dead. I'd much rather they be better while I can still enjoy them.

I'm not saying hope for life is uneccesary. I want to go down in history. I want to be a psychologist and make some big discovery. However if I like to think I'll know if I do go down in history. Life is worth living, and I'mnot going tolive a crappy life to have a good one when I die. I just hope that happiness doesn't end for good.

No, I still don't get it. If you're going to hope for something after death, there are limitless options to chose from, good or bad. And if you make it something good, it could be so much better than anything in this life. I guess I just don't think there is anything better than this life, and I don't understand why anyone would want anything more than this life.

Perhaps, I'm not as openminded as I thought. I can't seem to get past this idea of life after death. I don't like to think of myself as a particularly stubborn person, but sometimes I really am.

but you can enjoy better things after life. everything that hasn't been invented or any ideas that have never been thought of could be pursued after life. maybe we will be able to fly! imagine how awesome that will be. or maybe we could create our own solar system for this universe. but in the meantime we try should try to do what we want whether it'd be go to college or becoming a millionare like bill gates. you just gotta have hope and not fear to leave this world someday.

I don't fear leaving this world, but I don't think there is anything after this world.

Is it necessarily not optimism if you don't want there to be an afterlife? I'm not really thrilled about the idea of continuing on after death, or of coming back to another life. So, in a way, I'm optimistic that it won't happen.

So you actually look forward to nothing? Optimistic means hopeful. Pessimistic means fearful. You don't appear to be either, and if you actually look forward to the absolute end, then I pity you.

Each person has thier own beliefs on what happens when mortal life ends. Though it is true that when the physical body dies, it is gone for good and becomes nurishment. What isn't truly known by people is what happens to the soul. There is proof of spirits as well as the near-death experiences, so there is a strong possability that our souls do exist if you are to look at this with a more scientific view. Religiously, every faith has thier own version of what will happen. In my faith, our sould are guided to the Hall of Maati (Two Truths). To pass through safely, we must speak the true names of the demons that confront us and profess the 42 percepts of Ma'at. In this Yinepu and Nebt-het assists us. Then we are brought before Wesir. In the Kemetic belief, our souls are made of 7 parts, and here in the afterlife the two that are most involved are the ba (True soul) and ka (Heart soul, seat of the personality). The ka is weighed agianst the feather of Ma'at. Should your ka be as weightless as the feather, your ka will become glorified as an Akh, a shinning one, and be returned to earth to watch over your decendants while your ba enters into the Duat, the kemetic version of heaven. If the ka is heavier than the feather, it is devoured by Ammit and the ba is returned to Earth to be reborn and a new ka is created.

Optimistic does not mean hopeful. It means having a positive outlook. Pessimistic means having a negative outlook. To me, a life after death is a negative; it seems strange and unnatural. A life that ends in death is natural and right. If I were to believe that there is life after death, then I would consider myself a pessimist because I would look at it negatively. As it is, I don't think there is life after death, which to me is a good thing, so my outlook is positive, and I'm an optimist.

I don't look forward to the end. I'm not in a hurry to die, or anything, but when I get to the end, I want it to just end. I'm satisfied with this life on this earth in this time, and while I appreciate your concern, I don't think I need pity (unless, of course, you'd like to pity me for being a Patriots fan right now, in which case, I'll take it!)

I'm a Christian (if you can't tell from my sig down there) and my belief is that God will judge each person individually when they die.
I am ALSO a very scientific-thinking person. I have full faith in God, but even if I'm devoting myself to something that isn't real, I'd rather live my life like there is a God and die to find out there isn't than live like there is no God and die to find out there is.

What happens if you die and find out that the god you believe in does not exist, but some other god does? What if, say, the Greeks and Romans had it right, or the Hindus, or the Cherokees? Do you just believe in all of them and hope you've covered all the bases?

There is no such thing as heaven or hell.

You'll just rot away and be a lifeless pile of bones.

I use to be very involved in the Roman Catholic church, until I started looking into every thing that the church believes in. So for the past couple of years I've been trying to figure out what exactly I believe in. Here is some of what I've realized is the basis of my faith.

1. I believe that there is a God (I don't believe that this God has any form then what we chose to give it)
2. I believe that there is something after death, whether it be reincarnation or going to Heaven or whatever.

I also know that our bodies (including our minds) will slowly decompose and that believeing in something after death is just a comfort for many, but it is a comfort that I fully indulge in. I would hate to think that the pain and suffering many people around the world have to endure is all that there is for them. What a bleak and dismal world it would be if people didn't have the hope of an afterlife to console them in their time of need.

Aww Heck
"to die we must live, to live we must die"

heard that years ago, and my pastor recited it three weeks ago

here's the "christian" inturpretation of it

as for life after death - it'sout there, but there are only two palces to go

Heaven or Hell

should one become familair with jesus by dying spiritually, he then gaisn imortallity within the walls of heaven,

eyt if one doesnt do so, then they will gain eternal suffering within the lake of fire

---------------

i'm a devouted christian - God s my leader and he alone is my prioty

my current lsit of priorities are
1God
2Monique (girl i wanna hook up with)

then dive way down the mountain of importance to:
3 getting a job
4 getting into college
5 Karate Lessons
6 family
7 myself

what i mean by "mountain of importance"

3-7 COMBINED dont even scathe how important Monique is to me, and she's the same when compared to big G

Sorry to disagree with you here, but the "christian" view of death is not that simple. stare Hell is much more complicated then just a lake of fire, if you look into the history of the church you will see that there is a punishment tailored for each sin depending upon its severity. Now remember that hell is only for people who do not repent and want absolutely nothing to do with God. Now say you confess on your deathbed and are absolved of your sins by a priest, then quess what, you get to go to Heaven. Now lets say that you don't confess but when you get to the "pearly gates" you really want to confess, then quess what, you get to go to Purgatory. Puratory is also apart of death, Christians believe that it is a place where many people go to work off their sins. So please when you say you are a devote christian keep in mind that you are a represnative of your faith and don't spout off a "Dummies Guide" version of such a crucial part of the faith. neutral

Not the most eloquent way of putting it, but at least there's one person who has the same view I do!
