You should definitely go for it still!! It's a learning process--you'll get better as the season goes on.

Adam Mikurta Well coming from trombone backround ive only recently switched myself to baritone/euphonium, ive been working on air capacity, lip flexibility, articulations, and scales, the only thing i really need help on is the finger speed and to be clean while transitioning to the next note. Any tips for that? Also if anyone knows more breathing execercises besides the sip, blade, in or out for however many counts, fighting for air, then someone please tell me. Same goes with lip slur exercises Another great tip for breathing is knowing how to breath deeply. Try saying the word "How", but instead, breath in while saying it. This is a way to maximize the air in one quick breath and will help in support and sustaining of the sound. It also forces you to use your diaphragm, because just saying the word and intaking air engages the muscle. I am a woodwind player at my high school and am a 2 year Oregon Crusaders vet in the front ensemble.
A way to practice fast fingers is to learn major scales (minor if you can) and memorize them. It wont take that long if you spend about 1 week on each scale. speed it up faster and faster. Do scale patterns if you have some of them, and if not, I have some great ones. Then you've got a great foundation for many of the runs you'll come across in corps.

I was listening to some of the Spirit staff last night and I heard a really interesting concept and anaology....
Think of a faucet. You can turn it on and off, but you can also just take your hand and just move it back in forth in the stream. What takes less effort? The later....so that's what the air stream should be like with only your tounge interrupting it....not stopping it.

I'm doing Oregon Crusaders this year....if you guys think you're isolated everywhere else, try having to drive 11 HOURS to the nearest Div I corps! (Blue Devils and Santa Clara) The only other "touring" corps in the northwest is Spokane Thunder and they're like....a 7 hour drive from the Portland area. Oregon Crusaders ftw. =3

Wow, I thought i was isolated, but wait around Fl, arent the Boston crusaders, and teal sound? Eh, whatever I like the sound of Crown better. A gigantic wall of brass is what everyone needs! lol

I miss living out in California when I actually had a choice of driving to several corps...
...now the only DCI corps around me are Spirit, Teal Sound, and Memphis Sound...and that's within a 0-11 hour driving distance.
(I go to JSU)
btw, blackpanther dude...we totally have a show with you guys this season.

But yeah we have like 2 corps up here. Spokane Thunder and Oregon Crusaders. Cascades has folded....they haven't announced anything but...we're getting the last of their member drop outs.... next closest is like a drive from Washington/Oregon border down to Cali! more than like 16 hours!
