Do you respect PS3? Or no?

I don't. I consider it PS2 with a new shape and one more button. PS2 was the best and needed no children...

So you don't respect a console that you say is the same as a console you say is the best...but it just has one more button and a different shape...So you don't respect the console that is like the console you think is the best? confused

This confuses me. Anyway, couldn't you say the same thing about the PS2? That it's just a PS with a different shape?

Canis is right, by your own view point, you could apply that logic, or lack of it, to any consol, that the 360 is just the xbox with a new shape.

The PS3 is far more then a PS2, it is a new consol, plain and simple.
I do have one question, exactly what does "and needed no children" mean? how does it need children?

YEAH...

@Si-Shen
I think he means, that it doesn't need Children as it's majority owner. I think he's trying to say that Children are the majority Wii owners which is totally false. Give some credit to the elderly!

I think what he's referring to here is that, to him, the PS3 feels like an exact copy and a rip-off of the PS2, just changed a bit to avoid being the same. If you make one thing, and it's the best thing ever, you don't want someone to go off and start making false copies of it, because then the best thing ever stops selling as much, because some people are buying the fake best-things-ever.

Only problem is that this just isn't true for the PS3. I respect the machine (definitely much more than my 360 which likes to be dead more often than it likes to play games.... sweatdrop ) because it is different from the PS2. Even if you simplify the differences (the Cells, the Blu-ray, the online) they're still noticeably not the exact same as the PS2.

Also, I read the "don't need no children" as "it doesn't need any successors"...

if that is what he ment, then he wants Sony to litterally be out of the gaming business within 3 years. The PS2 is over 5 years old now, Sony needs to compete, only a fool would think the PS2 doesnt need a successor.

I like your points on the PS3, the fact that if it was basically the same, it would mean that without help, it could play a PS2 game, yet the PS3 is so different that it needs extra support to play the PS2 games.

That's the thing, it isn't someone else going off making a rip-off of it...it's the same company making it. I don't see Sony as changing their systems every time the next-gen comes along. I actually agree that it's the same as the PS2 when you get down to basics...just not a rip-off.

I also see the PS2 as the same as the PS. Sony is using the same formula, because it works, yet building upon it. Technology advances, improve processing power, storage, graphical capability, and features all around. I don't see all of the PlayStation brand as individual consoles. I see them all as one in the same.

Each one just continues on the others legacy. I don't see each new PlayStation as a successor to an earlier one. I see it as the PlayStation evolving. That's what I love about the PS, it usually has games that appeal to me the most, plays the way I like, and evolves as needed. It does what it does better each generation, yet keeps it's base, it is flexible.

The PS3 is different from the PS2 in terms of what it can do, also adding a harddrive, wireless, and HDMI, yet to me pretty much the same. Same controller, same way of playing, same gaming console. I love consistency yet flexibility. I don't respect just the PS3 but the whole PlayStation brand.
