...was asked to write a story for a contest. It had to be as short as possible and include all four of these elements: religion, politics, sex, and mystery.
The winner?
"My God!" cried the queen. "I'm pregnant! I wonder who did it?"

True story:
During the reign of Louis XIV (if I got my Louis' right) a 6-year-old girl of the nobility woke up in the palace one morning to find a baby in bed beside her. The court ladies had placed a newborn in the bed as a joke, and told the girl that she had given birth during the night.
When asked whom the father might be, the girl said it had to be either the King or her father, because those were the only two men she'd ever kissed.
