I thought about taking the JLPT at the end of this year but I'm a little worried as to what the demands are.
Did you take the JLPT? If so, how was it?

I'd like to hear of some experiences you had...
I'm kinda scared XD

Oh, forgot to mention: I'm taking level 4...

If you're taking college level Japanese, JLPT level 4 and 3 are pretty easy.
Can't say much if you're taking high school level since the amount you learn varies per school, though 4 should be doable.

They have examples on what's expected of you on wikibooks if you might find those helpful. Level four shouldn't be too hard if you know enough kanji.

I'm thinking of taking the JLPT too. I'm kinda scared, to tell the truth. What if I FAIL? I can't imagine the shame... ; ; What I'm most worried about is vocabulary. How are you doing on JLPT stuff, grammar/vocab/kanji-wise?

Oh, and why are you in Copenhagen? Are you an American? o:

I'm planning on taking the Level 1. In fact I'm almost done making flash cards for the vocab. If you have an Apple and the program iFlash I should have them uploaded in the next few weeks. Sorry they arn't divided by level...

In order to pass level 4 you need to know:

Kanji: 100
Vocabulary: 800
And listening at a basic level
A pass is 60%

Generally in order to be able to do level 4 you need to have studied Japanese for 150 hours.

Many people would say that passing level 4 isn't even worth taking the test for, since the knowledge required in Japanese is practically only that of a 1st grade student in Japan, but if you really want to then go ahead?

I would agree that it's difficult to study on your own, but not impossible. I think the main thing is that some text books vary and by not having a tutor to correct anything or expand on your questions. . .it does limit you.

The text book that I have says it should take you approximately 55 hours to complete, which is still only 1/3 of the general recommended time of study.

Although learning 100 kanji on your own isn't hard at all . . . so maybe you should give it a try?

I'm thinking of taking JLPT 3 because JLPT 4 seems so easy that it might be a waste of time and money. The completist in me, though, wants to take all four of them.
