In my theory on the lack of werewolf animes and good werewolf movies is that, werewolves don't appeal to people like vampires do. The seduction and sensuality of vampires are widely known and people are more attracted to the lust and power of vampires. Where as with werewolves, they are brutal animalistic and generally morbid, those qualities are more intimidating rather than appealing like a vampire is. Oh and I don't care for vampires all that much waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to popular now especially with all the stupid people thinking themselves awesome and cool for NOW beginning to like them becuase of all the cool stuff on tv and the media... blugh....

I admit I used to first falling to the appeal of the vampires as opposed to the werewolves but that's because I saw them as dirty and crude where as vampires were clean and graceful. However, I love lycans now because there's just so many perspectives to play them from and they can be ruled by their wolven or their human side. It's a constant inner sort of conflict or struggle though some attain peace amongst eachother. The animalistic quality of them is really interesting and while most people portray them to be violent and whatnot, wolves are beautiful creatures and I believe lycans can be as well. Not all of them are flesh eating monsters, they can be graceful as well and some lycans are simply wolves in their other form as opposed to a wolf that's more human-like and stands on two feet. ^^

Normally, I'm a vampire kind of guy. But, with both vampires and lycans, it depends on how they are portrayed. Take this for example:
Twilight Vampire =/= Vampire
Lestat de Lioncourt = Vampire
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same thing applies to lycanthropes, for me at least. I've never cared for the over-savage lycans (at least, in terms of me being them) nor the "furry" ones (which are creepy and border-line bestiality).
Honestly, the best rendition of the lycan can be found in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series. Here, you can find all of the information about her kind. It's a lot to take in, but I feel you might understand why I like her universe's take on it.
But as far as anime goes, there are almost none which I know of. This probably exists for a number of reason, with the main one probably being the lack of a way to portray them as being human. What I mean is, where-as a vampire looks and acts very human, even going as far as amplifying things such as sexuality and power, lycans just don't carry that same effect. They are seen more as beast and less as humans, where they are actually more human than vampires if you think about it.
Still, that's the best way I could answer such a question.
