Well, I tend to try and solo it most of the time, because people piss me off. A seventeen year old girl must be careful where she treads in WoW. xD Specially an utter newb.
But I was introduced in a guild with high levels, and they've all been spectacularly nice to me, and answer all of my questions.
Funny, I had that question about elites yesterday. They suck, but I understand.
Basically, be calm, and others will be calm, I find.

LorienLlewellyn On people: Yeah, it is wonderful to run into someone nice in game. For a while my night elf shadow priest kept running into an undead shadow priest. We would always wave to each other. On spelling, grammar, and slang: I am Co-GM of a guild and am in charge of recruitment. When I interview people through whispers, I do take care to notice their spelling and grammar. If someone cannot even take a second to type "you" instead of "u," then I know they might not be a good fit for my guild. Personally, I find "u" to be lazy, stupid, and disrespectful. If they cannot take the time to even attempt to spell actual words, then I don't see them being patient enough to be a good raider. In my experience, it's rare to see a nice and mature person make use of the "word" "u." Usually it is more like, "hai wil u giv me 20g 4 armor plz plz plz?" We require vent for raids anyway, so no one should be that pressed for time that they cannot type a simple word like "you." If someone is farming when I whisper them, I would rather they just wait until they have time to respond properly rather than give me some response that I have to try to decode because it does not contain actual words. Now that it is not to say that perfect spelling and grammar are required in my guild. You might see guildies of mine using "there" when it should be "their" every once in a while. While I notice it, I am not going to gkick anyone for it. xp As long as someone makes an effort, that is what matters to me. While we are a "preferably 18 and up" guild, we do have a couple of younger people. Our youngest is a lovable, well-meaning ten year old with awful spelling, but he tries so hard. xp i use correct spelling and grammer whilst in wow but i use "u" instead of "you" every so often and "plz", "dnt", etc mainly when im fighting and have to type something, it's just easier and quicker.... it's not hard to understand those abbreviations unless your an utter retard. yes fair enough those people who speak almost fully like that "omg hai gif mi som epix roflzorz" they are obviously not mature enough, but i see nothing wrong with people using the odd "u" instead of "you" it's not really that big a deal...

My old guild was full of adults and parents such as myself. Unfortunately we disbanded because we were all too busy to raid, and the ones that could went to more active guilds.
I always hated my old old guild who let retarded 12 year olds run with them simply because they were level 60. And this one kid was probably ******** eight years old. They would let him substitute on his brother's account when they needed to do ZG.

It's definitely a matter of opinion. Lots of people would agree with you that it is not a big deal. I think it is a big deal though. I don't think "u" is ever an appropriate substitute for the word "you." Like I said though, just my opinion. I would not someone with my guild name under their name walking around typing that way in an ideal world. xp

I love meeting nice people. It's such a releif. I made a new char the other day and was questing in Silverpine...a whole bunch of things happenned i was constantly begged for gold (on my main) and i found a group with an overconfident tank who hated us all for his mistakes, a guy who kept needing on EVERYTHING even though i tried to explain it...I try to be nice to everyone and I always find myself getting noob attacked. I suggest things in bg sometimes and then everyone says stupid things and noone gets together..lol I'm not whining im just syaing its hard to find some..decent people. Like I've heard, the annonymity of the internet causes people to be their worst.
Oh, and someone ninja'd Nightblade the other day. stare Not a fantaaastic weapon but still.

Agreed. Asking for perfect spelling and grammar in an online game gives off an air of pretentiousness, which honestly gets me pretty riled up. If I'm slacking off in Shatt then yeah, I'll type with pretty good spelling and grammar, but I never capitalize anything. Waste of time, imo. I only do it here because I can be arsed. Stuff like 'ne1,' 'rdy,' and 'plz' are totally acceptable. The game is something mindless and fun to do for a few hours, you shouldn't expect people to type like they're writing paper for a prof. I understand you're not trying to be a spelling nazi but you're still coming off pretty harsh.

Karnokoto ...Asking for perfect spelling and grammar in an online game gives off an air of pretentiousness.....I understand you're not trying to be a spelling nazi but you're still coming off pretty harsh. Being a former educator, spelling is important to me. It's important that people take the time to respect other people in the game. When someone says "plz" to me, I see it as disrespectful. I see it as someone who wants something from me but won't even take the time to talk to me like a human being. Oh well though. That's just my opinion. You have yours; I have mine. It's all in how things are perceived. People are going to have different opinions about it. That's to be expected. Either way, there isn't much reason to keep discussing it. I am not going to change my opinion on it any time soon, so all we can do is agree to disagree. I know that not everyone agrees with me, and that's ok with me. I know that some people who use "u" are nice people. I just don't like it. xp

SHOUT OUT. The only intelligent people I have ever met are people from my past guilds. AND MAX.The most annoying people on WoW: The over-zealous AB guy. You know what I'm talking about. "OMG, seriously? Are we really losing this?" "Woooow... GG losing farm with 5 people there!" "If I was there, I could have saved it." "I don't know why I always get paired with the idiots." The best part is, they are ALWAYS SHITTY AND TERRIBLE MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD DAMAGE AND THEY SORT BY KBs AND BRAG ABOUT BEING NUMBER ONE. DFJKLASDFSDF! If I hadn't lost my WoW folder, I would post screenshots.

Oh, yeah, been there. xp Random bottom DPS guy might actually be able to dish out the damage, and we might have even been able to win the game if he did not spend the entire gaming typing out all of his whines! Man, that drives me crazy. Of course, I am probably not much better than they are because I can't resist fighting with them about it. xp

If someone whispers me in AIM-speak I won't even reply. I think it's pretentious to think you're above using the english language properly.
That, and not once have I ever encountered a player who typd liek this who didn't repeatedly cause the group to wipe.

It's truly a rarity for that to happen. Most WoW players are a bit too immature and spoiled.

Chibibar Heh. I never consider age = maturity smile hence a saying that I firmly believe. Growing old is inevitable , growing UP is optional. I live by this quote, I hate it when I meet 14 years old that act like they're 30, what happened to watching cartoons? I'm 16 and I still do.

Just a note about spelling. If i know the person, i'll generally be slightly less Grammar Perfect. However, if im whispering someone i don't know or in a party, i'll normally start with something like "Hello mate, do you mind Tanking / Healing / DPSing for X?" So yeah, i think it depends on the situation as to how you type.
