What is it with the demon biting mating mark thing I keep seeing in fanfictions? Was it ever talked about in the anime? Who came up with it? Are they thinking it up cause of dog behavior? I'm curious.

I really have no idea who started it but I know it's has never been mentioned in the anime or the manga. Actually in the manga the opposite is implied, especially when we see Sesshoumaru's mother. We know that Izayoi came after her, so it's safe to assume that dog demons don't stay with someone forever.
As far as I know the marking and mating thing has nothing to do with real dog habits, because dogs go after anything that's in heat and then they leave.

I think that one person had it in their stories and then eveyone started doing it.
