Ok, I was watching the "current episode", and I noticed something bizarre. Can anyone explain why Aang can firebend now? He went up the stairs and couldn't even manage to keep a small flame lite, got to the bottom, and shot fire like Zuko!
Can anyone explain this to me?

He couldn't firebend before because he was afraid of hurting someone. (Like he'd hurt Katara way back when) He saw fire as destruction, and thus was afraid of loosing control. After going through the trials of sun warriors, he understood fire as being life instead of death, and thus got over his fear of loosing control.

I'd imagine beyond the whole not wanting to hurt people thing, the dragons 'revealed' some significant insight to both of them while they were in the flames. I just assumed whatever he saw helped Aang get some mad skills. They didn't really explain it well at the end.

will Aang really need firebending? It not like it protects you from getting burned (Zuko's eye). What possible use would firebending be against the firelord, the ultimate firebender...Will Aang learn lightning bending too? If not then he will definitely lose against the firelord.

If not then he will definitely lose against the firelord. ♪~Well you do have to remember that Aang knows very well of his other bending abilities, having the ability for fire will help Aang know if the fire will become too wild, even though he might be shot with lightning. ~♫
