Hello. It is most wonderful to meet everyone.
^_^

I come to you in hopes of attaining suggestions for recent Japanese movies/videos which would be appropriate for a viewing audience which ranges from a 7th grade level to 12th grade.
My school is small and thus the anime and japanese culture club encompasses the entire school.
sweatdrop
I hope to find something which is appropriate for all, without boring either end of the spectrum.
I also have a limited amount of time to preview movies, as I have much school work.

If you even have an inkling at a title, please let me know.
Thank you.

Millenium Actress was a decent movie, if I remember correctly.

You miss out on a lot of the meaning without being a Japanese film fan though.

In general, Hayao is a safe bet since his works are family friendly, and tame enough in most of his movies for nearly no one to get upset. My personal favorite from him is Princess Mononoke.

Wolf's Rain and Blood+ are some good bets. Both are a little violent and Blood+ does have PARTIAL nudity (as in you know they're nude but nothing is visible). And if you're up for a little philosophy you can try Ergo Proxy (violent and a bit hard to follow at some points, but you shouldn't get bored). And as mentioned before, Anything by Hayao Miyazaki and/or Studio Ghibli is a safe bet (though, the movies usually run for a good two hours or more, so they're long).

Now, if you want to show some J-horror, try Ringu. It's not really violent, so it's more of a psychological horror (it's also the movie The Ring was based on). Reincarnation should be a good one too, but only if you're allowed to show live action movies that have a little blood and a hanging (it IS a very good movie though).

And, if you can get ahold of it, show some Japanese TV dramas. Hana Kimi is a good start. Or, if you want something that is captivating, try Galileo.

Anyway, that's all I can think of now. It's a culture club too right? Try showing a documentary on famous historical sights in Japan or even one on Samurai. Try some reading material as well. It helps to mix in some variety. : )

I love those movies. Yes, the school might not allow that movie though, for the few that have weak stomachs. Those demons were beastly. Haha ^__^.

Thank you everyone.
^___^

I can't use millenium actress though.
That's a bit too old.
When I said new, I meant within the last year.
^___^;;
The newest possible.
^o^
millenium actress randomly won one of the 3 most popular movies in my school 2 years ago actually..... that's how I remember how old it was.
>__<

and What about life action movies?

I showed the Death Note movie last year.... if that's anything to go on.
That was okay.
no one seems to mind violence.
-___-;
not as much as yaoi or yuri.
go figure.... they're just biased I guess.
and nudity isn't really good.
It's okay if it's not that much, but usually, too much of that doesn't go over well.
-__-;
mostly because of the maturity level.
;__;

hmm.... and I wodner..... Ringu might work.
it might.

but not Hana Kimi. We're already watching Hana Yori Dango.
that and tsubasa.

I'm watching Yukan Club (not the anime but the J-drama)

It's a litte cheesy and exaggerated at times but it's hilarious xD
It makes me laugh every 5 minutes..

Great movies, but I think they are a little old. Howl's Moving Castle is newer, but I don't like it as much. I enjoy watching J-drama, but the ones I've seen are pretty old.

It's sometimes hard to find "new anime"...

Personally, I think you'd be better off with good classics like Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (A.K.A. Silver Fang). It's a series, but it's very good after episode 7. But it's also known to be one of the most violent animes ever and it was animated by the same people that made Dragonball.
