Yeah. That was me today. I was a inside room moniter for saxophones. i spent four and a half hours listening to(one by one, 72 times) bari, soprano, alto and tenor sax. this, was the most retarded thing i have ever done. sure, it's fun, and yes, all my friends are there. but is it really worth giving up a weekend for?

Trust me, I have devoted many a weekends to aiding/running various auditions, festivals, competitions, and true events. Now that I'm a music teacher, I realize and appreciate just how much work students volunteer for these events.
Yes, I believe it is worth investing a day or weekend to help out in events. No, students don't have to sacrifice every single weekend to help out, nor do the same students have to help out at every event. People get burned out doing that all the time.
Think of it as community service. The hours you help out in music events can be applied to NHS (National Honor Society), and especially Tri-M (Music Honor Society).
Trust me. Without students volunteering to help, these events that you attend, such as Regionals, Solo and Ensemble, Festival, and the like, would be utter chaos. Music directors simply cannot take care of these large-scale events by themselves. Besides, we usually reward you guys with free food!

Wow I thought for all state was tough. I was monitoring the tflute room and of course there were more of them thatn any other instrument. So when all my friend were all gone I was still there. I seriously wanted to die.
