i'll give you tips, since I'm going to be an student assistant instructor for drummers in my school.

drumming is all about beats, and without beats, the whole song will sound horrible.what you need to do is to use your ears a lot when playing the snare drum. So, when you mess up, stop and try it again. also single doubles stroke patterns helps a lot in your speed. And sound off the long notes. for eight notes, say:1 N' 2 N' 3 N' 4(1+2+3+4).and for sixteinth notes,say:1 e N' a,2 e N' a,3e N' a, 4 e N' a,while your playing the notes at the same time.and if your having trouble with a beat, clap it out first to get a good understanding of whats it's going to sound.

don't let your stick bounce. that just makes what ever your playing sound horrible. (stay in control of your sticks)

all right........ i've been drumming since 5th grade. The hardest thing about being a drummer is learning the basics. After that you can learn to play anything on command. I can play instinctively now. Buy a book, pad, and sticks from Vic Firth. the best place in the world to get drumline and drumset gear. Also being a girl drummer is very hard, the guys pick on you or ignore you. you'll be fine.

I like the book "Stick control" I forgot who wrote it, but it's like a drummer bible. Also a book by podemski was really good for me.

My instructor has inside history with the people who set the standard rudiments for all drummers now. He's used those two books for years. ^_^

listen to your favourite type of music (it helps if theres drums in it"xD)
then just try to find the drums and copy what they are doing.
try at first just tapping on tables to music and stuff like that.
thats how i got into the drums. xD
