Shy foxie
Hey there people, I'm a 17-year old Canadian girl in the process of enlisting. I'm just going through getting my application over and finished and stuff and so far it looks like it's a fairly good bet I'm in. Anyway, apparently I'll be doing my BMQ and Soldier Qualification over the summer at Borden and I was wondering if anyone else would be heading there too (especially any other new recruits!).
By the way, if anyone would like to offer any hints as to what I should be doing for a good exercise program so I don't look like too much of a wuss over the summer I would greatly appreciate it.
They're doing BMQ in Bordon now or are you army reserves? Just I thought all training was done through CFLRS in Saint-Jean. Anyway though thank God everyday that you're not going to CFLRS Saint-Jean, Quebec...thank'em twice. That place is a volentary prison that messes with your mind...
To be honest, I've never been to Bordon or did BMQ...since I went officer and ended up doing IAP.
Be prepared after the first few days they're going to lock up all your civie stuff and you won't see anything but military kit until you're done your 4 weeks indoctrination period...and even then only if you're lucky enough not to be confined to base right after.
General tips for basic though is work out. Push ups are your friends and make sure you can do them in bunches of 25 (since every time you're told to do push ups, it will be in bunches of 25). A good way to work on that, is do as many as you can in the morning when you wake up or night...then try to do one more. There is also a lot of running as well.
Also...Mr. Clean Magic Erasers saved my life. They take the boot polish off your floor like a breeze and is great for the last second "wipe the scuff off the floor before the Master Seaman gets in". You may want a box of those, your buddies will love you.
I found working to every meal is a life savor. Just say "soon lunch will be here...then we'll sit down for 10 minutes, soon lunch and the day is half over"...or "dinner is almost here then the day will be soon done, once we have dinner then we'll have a few more hours before bible and bed..." Take it one week at a time...one day at a time...one hour at a time.
Also make a promise with yourself...never....EVER...give up. That's the key in my opinion, that and not buddy ******** (screwing over on purpose) your platoon mates. Just make a promise that you'll never sign those voluntary release (VR) forms...and you should do well.
Oh and no matter how scary the Warrant, Sergent, PO, Master Corporal, Master Seaman, Master Bombardier is...don't take it personally. Deep down inside they want you to pass, just they usually show that...caring side in a very interesting way.
...I could probably give you more advice or tell you how my IAP was (the officer version of BMQ...with more leadership classes and leadership testing, less physical demands and field time)...if you PM me...but sorry if it takes a while to reply...the internet in my shack has been up and down all week.
