Important People

Who runs a country? A king and queen? It is not just the royalty but commodores, generals, lieutenants and regent protectors. Without them Alvirad would be lost in a chaotic battle between itself and the outlying countries outside of its borders. The following is a description and list of current or former important people that reside within Alvirad.

-Vidal-

-Lhazaar-

Name: Ambrose Kell

Gender: Male

Age: 39

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 223 lbs.

Allegiance: Lhazaar

Class: King

Weapons: A silver-bladed sword that shimmers in the sunlight; the steel hilt is embedded with an aquamarine on either side, a symbol of the high seas. A crossbow of the finest crafted oak and durable cord. The wood is inscribed with Arcane markings that endow Oakell--for that is the name of the crossbow--with the ability to automatically redraw the cord after being fired. Thus, loading is much simpler.

Appearance: Ambrose has a well-maintained tan from being out in the sun so often. His hair is a sandy brown, wavy, and falls to his shoulders. His clean-shaven face bears no significant markings other than the creases of aging. His eyes are deep blue like mirrors forever gazing upon the sea. Ambrose dons an elbow-length tunic lathered in the rich orange dyes which are so highly prized on the continent. A man of the military and the sea, he defends himself with a leather vest to avoid rust, and his hands are sheathed in a pair of leather gloves. They have not stopped the callouses caused by wielding a blade or maintaining a ship, however. Around his waist, Ambrose wears a wide, thick belt. At his right hip hangs the sheath which is lined with wool. Dangling from his belt just behind the sheath is his leather pouch in which Ambrose Kell carries the bolts for Oakell. There is a deep scar running from the outside of the King's left knee that continues down toward his shin. His orange trousers are a soft cotton so as not to bother the wound. Finally are his boots: they are of the finest make and custom-fitted to his legs. The cuffs stop just short of Ambrose's leg wound.

Personality: Ambrose is a very strong diplomat, having been raised during the conflicts at sea. He was alive during much of his father's dealings with various regents, and was able to learn firsthand the best way to handle any political situation. So, in the political arena at least, Ambrose is feared for his cunning and prowess. However, he has been known to occasionally fall short of his mental and social greatness; Ambrose is very greatly affected by his injury. It has caused a limp that for the most part he can hide; every once in awhile, however, it flares up and causes him extreme grief. During those times, he is prone to violent mood swings. It has cost him, and for the most part it is controlled; still, he has his days...

Another ugly side of Ambrose is his disgust for his wife; he was required to take a wife at a certain time of his life, in order to assure that he would attain regency. It was rushed, and he still suffers the consequences of a weak marriage.

History: Ambrose was the third of the four Kell children who inherited the vast continent of Alvirad. During his youth, much pirate activity was occurring in and near the ports of Alvirad, and a large majority took place in the Lhazaar region. Being the King, Ambrose's father often ventured southward to deal politically and militantly with those whom opposed order. It was near the sea and on those grand ships that Ambrose fell in love: not with a girl, but with seamanship itself. At age eight, Ambrose demanded a personal tutor in captaining and managing a vessel. At age twelve, Ambrose was capable of taking any crewman's place, save for the captain and the cook (for in regards to cooking, Ambrose was an absolute failure). In other areas of skill, however, Ambrose was not quite so strong. Being the third, he was expected to live up to the standards his two elder brothers had set. While he was incapable of matching them, there was more than one occasion during which he defeated one or the other in a duel. However, there had also been much stronger negative repercussions.

It was during one of his many duels with his eldest brother, Leander Kell, that Ambrose received the injury on the side of his left leg. In order to apologize for the act of carelessness, Ambrose's elder brother offered to him Oakell, which originally had been a birthday present to Leander. Their relationship was mended for many years, until the death of their father. In that time, things quickly disintegrated, and the two have not spoken since the last "diplomatic meeting."

When Ambrose was eighteen, he took a wife so that he may become a Regent beneath his father. However, their relations quickly soured as they found they had very little in common and even less physical attraction between them. Two years later, Nadia (Nah-dee-uh') Kell bore a son for Ambrose: Halen (Hay'-len). Had it not been for great social pressure, and sexual frustration, Halen probably would never have been born. A year and a half later, and to the surprise of Ambrose's friends and counsel, a second child was born: a girl, they named Lianna.

-Galifar-

Name: Leander Kell
Age: 44
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 238 lbs.
Weapons: A great claymore as tall as Leander; its blade shines with a mirror polish, the handle is covered with a leather-wire wrap, and inscribed at the base of the blade are these words: Prossos Kelfer'nist -- Protect the people. It is a quickly dieing language that existed over a large expanse of Galifar before and during the earlier years of Aidenn Kell's reign, and was the family language of the smith whom crafted it. Also, a two-bit battle-axe, the haft of which stands at 5'6". The blades are enchanted to keep from chipping or becoming blunt, and glow an eerily soft orange in the midst of battle.
Appearance: Leander is a broad-shouldered, thickly built warrior. Although he spends a large time outdoors, the heavily forested lands of Galifar have kept his tan light. His dark brown hair is cropped short. Along his sideburns gray hair is beginning to spring forth, and deep lines crease his forehead; both obvious signs of his aging. His short-sleeved tunic is a rich green like the lively branches of Galifar's sturdy oaks. A leather vest custom-tailored by Leander's personal leatherworker is worn during even casual outings and it is only at home that he removes it. A belt is thrown diagonally over his right shoulder and holds his claymore at his back. His battle-axe dangles from a looped holster at his right side. His pants are a leather of a natural boots; as are his boots. On his arms are leather gauntlets with steel-plated backsides.

Personality: Leander has always been an exemplary leader, and a strong-willed man. He is one of those great men who simply radiate with authority. Their voices can be soothing and comforting when they wish, they can evoke the greatest fear or dread when they choose, and they can utter the most encouraging words you have ever heard; Leander has this ability, and comes by it naturally just as his father had before him. He has never been a man to back down from a challenge, and even in his youth was a very level-headed person. Even in the face of great emotional trauma and stress, he has been able to carry on as a fit and ready leader, and garners much respect from his people; if there is a single person within Galifar that wishes his removal, it is a foreigner.

History: From an early age, Leander showed great promise as a leader and warrior. By age ten Leander was carrying his own short sword and learning to duel against the royal guards. Hist training was grueling and fast-paced, but he excelled with any variation of weaponry. When he began tutoring for military strategy, again he excelled. His ability to draw useful analogies between singular combat and opposing armies proved to be an amazing and helpful skill, one inherited from his father. Leander proved his ability as a leader with his first sibling. every so often, while dueling with his younger brother, he would allow himself to be beaten, to keep hope alive. In full honesty, only his father continued to provide teenage Leander with a challenge in battle. Regardless, Leander never humiliated his siblings for he knew that one day he would rule with them at his side... or so he had been led to believe.

He made his biggest mistake ever during a duel with his youngest brother and the third child, Ambrose. Surprised by one of his brother's attacks, and thereby angered that the fight was not going as he had planned (for he planned all the fights with his siblings), he lashed out at Ambrose, catching him across the knee. Greatly grieved by his loss of self-control, Leander surrendered his prized crossbow, Oakell, to Ambrose. His gift was received graciously, and their relationship was mended. This aside, All throughout his young adulthood Leander was shining star. He taught his siblings what their teachers could not; he showed them the art of politics, and introduced them to the battlefield of love. They were a tightly-knit group for the most part, and Leander was a great elder sibling; if only he had foreseen his brother's treachery... that simple act that had led to the Great War.

At 17 Leander had taken for himself a lovely wife: Ophelia Kell. Their first son came soon thereafter. A year after, Ophelia attempted to bear a second child, but it was still-born. This was a great tragedy, but they continued to try. Ophelia and the child passed away during the birth. Leander was heartbroken, but he remained strong for his country. It was almost another five years before he married again. Elva Kell was 23 at the time, and gave Leander her first child as soon as possible. It was a girl. The next was a boy two years later. Approximately five years later, a second boy was born. Leander's relationship with Elva was strong, but the rumors about Darken, his eldest son, always kept the smallest of gaps between them. Even to this day, the rumors about Darken have made some Galifarans hesitant about the child. Regardless, Galifar continues as a strong, cooperative, unit-oriented (ie, family-oriented) country under the command of Leander Kell.
