What is the best race and class for a beginner. I was thinking a blood elf paladin but I am not sure.

theres no BEst class or races all the class and races have there good and bad to them. and your choice of class is totally dependent on what you want to do liket to do like rogues dps, Wars tank, and preists usual heal. and just look at race ability and base stats to fit the class you like.

There isn't a "best class" but there are some synergy between a race and a class.
Tauren makes good warrior due to extra HP boost and resist.
Orc gets bonus to pet damage
Dwarf has ability for stone skin
Drenai get +5 to Jewelcrafting (which is nice)
These are just brief examples, most races have 3-4 special abilities.
etc etc...
You would have to choose race that you like to play. Read up what are the advantages of that race and pick a class to match.

Starcus The most simple class you can start with is probably mage I think the most simplest class would be warrior. No mana bar, just HP and whack things.

Simple for the first 20 levels but when you start doing instances and need to tank and have no idea what threat or aggro is its the hardest job
Mages just spam one spell through a whole instance, easiest job ever smile

THe best class is the one who suits you best.
See what every class/race cand do and ask yourself if that's waht you want to play.

I must say I disagree with those who tell you to check what special abilities each race have, and what there startingstats are. Just choose the race you would prefer beeing. Because the most important thing is that you feel sadisfyed with your character.

Most of you missed the point - he's not asking for the best class in the game, he's asking for an easy to understand class to get into the game.
I'd say easiest class to start with is the hunter. Warlocks are similar, but I'd say more difficult to learn, as you need to keep up with DoTs & understand what each demon is for.
Paladin is a good choice for a first class. They're easy to solo with, as they have good survivability, & you'll also be wanted in a group as healer or tank. Warriors are similar, but I found them kind of difficult to solo as. >_<;;
