The first time I saw Stardust, I was completely attached to the screen. However, it was only after I got out the cinema, and someone asked me; '"So, what did you think of it?'" that I realised how incredible it was. Until then, it hadn't occured to me that I had just seen a film that I found perfect. Because I hadn't thought about it, I hesitated before answering.
"It was... it was really... wow."

---

The story is about a young man called Tristan, who is determined to win the heart of the village beauty. She promises to marry him if he fetches her the fallen star. However, three witches are also after the star, who is in human form, because eating her heart will give them youth. Also after the star are the two remaining princes of Stormhold, the magical kingdom. They need the stone that she has in order to become king. The other princes were murdered by their brothers. It's tradition to become king by killing off all other possible heirs.

And so you are swept away by a beautiful whirlwind of a film. The many plotlines, that occasionally interwine, and tie up nicely at the end, aren't hard to keep track of, but keep the film feeling fresh throughout. The CGI, although used quite alot, doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. The characters, particuarly the princes, are fantastic. The film is charming. It involves quite a lot of death, but it doesn't seem morbid. It involves plenty of humor, but doesn't seem like a comedy. It has the cheesy-est ending you can think of, but it seems to fit perfectly.

There is some slight suggestiveness. For example, in the prologue, Tristan's father, Dunstan, follows a woman into a caravan, and they shut the doors. Nine months later, his son arrives on his doorstep.
I went to see it with my five year old sister. The good thing about it is; if you don't know, it'll go right over your head. My sister didn't even notice.

I think the film didn't do so well because of it's marketing. The trailers I saw here advertised it as what it was, a fairytale with a touch of comedy, rather like the Princess Bride. However, I watched some of the trailers shown in America. It made it look like another Eragon- ie. another rubbish fantasy film, based on Lord of the Rings, but about five miles behind it.

Personal favourite parts of the film;
Septimus. I don't want to give away anything to those who haven't seen the film... but it was the Best Fight Scene. Ever.
(And it helps that, although the actor's in his forties, he is gorgeous.)

The music. I've got some of the soundtrack on my i-pod. The tracks 'Lamia's Lair' and 'Lamia's Doll' are fantastic.

---

An incredible film, with not a single flaw that I can think of.
Watch It.

This was my favorite movie to come out last year, definitely. But then again, most things Neil Gaiman touches turn to gold.

And yes, that was a great fight scene with Septimus. He was oddly attractive and would have made a good young Snape...
