When I was in high school, I was really into anime.

Then in college, I fell away from it for various reasons, mostly including that I was too busy for it, I had a time-demanding boyfriend, and that I met a few extreme anime fans who turned me away from it because I was somewhat afraid of becoming as obsessed as they were.

Anyway, in the past week or so, I've been getting into all the old anime that I had stored in my room, especially with Sailor Moon, which sadly, I only have a few DVDs to relive this show in comparison to several videotapes that I can no longer watch due to a lack of a VCR.

Since I didn't see an anime thread in here before, and since many (not all, but many) Gaians like anime to some extent, which titles to you like and why?

My personal favorites are:

Fushigi Yugi-fantasy, drama, comdedy, romance, awesome story. My only gripe is that the English dubbing for this one is really bad and should really only be watched in Japanese. Also, as the animation is older, its not as crisp as newer series are.

Ceres Celestial Legend-modern day sci-fi/fantasy, drama, romance. Made by the same woman who made Fushigi Yugi, only this one is a lot darker but there are still comic moments at times. The animation is better, and the English dubbing isn't bad either. biggrin

X by CLAMP (also known as X/1999)-modern day fantasy, philosophical, dark, apocalyptic, violent but not unnecessarily so. Had this one been advertised better, I think it would be much more popular than it is. The music is absolutely spectacular as well (I have both soundtracks and they get listened to often). The movie is not too great, but the TV series is amazing and makes up for the not-so-greatness of the movie.

Sailor Moon-fantasy, action, comedy, romance, good vs. evil. This one is the most famous anime worldwide and has brought in more money than all others. Some find this one repetitive, and I wouldn't go to say that this one is one of the more intellectual ones either, but it certainly is really fun to watch, and I personally, never get tired of it.

And there ends my dorkish-ly long post about anime. xd

Guess I'll break the ice here. blaugh

I like Yu-Gi-Oh! (original series not GX) because it emphasizes friendship and determination mostly; but I also got into it because it was just something different than what I'd normal see on the telly (television). I'm still into it and make many AMVs (anime music videos) and fanfictions based off of the characters and situations.

I also like InuYasha because it is romance, fantasy, and action all rolled into one. I am still into it and still read the mangas (books), but I can't say I've kept up with the anime as much as I'd like to have. sweatdrop

That's really all I'm into at the moment, but it's enough as I'm back in college/university studies and it takes up more time than anything else. 3nodding

@Bakura: I used to like Yugioh and I used to play the card game with my little brothers, that was so fun. Kaiba was my favorite in that one.

I could never get into Inuyasha though. I like Ranma 1/2 though, which is by the same writer/artist.

@Babeslove: That's alright! That's why I made other non-anime topics. heart

I like anime. My favorite is Fullmetal Alchemist, but I also like Naruto (dorky and oftentimes annoying as all hell but I can't get enough) Samari X, and I am going to watch once I get time Get Backers, Deathnote and Full Metal Panic Fumofu.

I love many of the animes previously listed, but my absolute favorite is :Vision of Escaflowne, which is primarily a fantasy, but not in excess. Its set in more like a mix of eastern and western medieval times, where science is pretty new and only starting to be used.

Also I like Raxephon, which is also apocalyptic and a bit head-tripping, but fun at the same time.

There is one manga, which i dearly wish was an anime:from far away. But its really new, so it could happen.

Ah I remember Escaflowne! I saw half of the series and I thought what I saw was amazing (and addicting to watch). I saw the set for a rather inexpensive price at Best Buy, so next time I'm in that direction, I should pick it up (I think it was only like, $30, something like that).

you should biggrin

i recently found a wonderful site :ANIME FEVER
you can see anime without downloading. but you can only see about 4 episodes in one day, unless you are really active in their forums (which i'm not), or you pay real money into it.but i love it.plus i don't have to worry about not having enough space on my hard drive for all of it.and i think if i saw more then that, it would be a bit to much.

because of this i saw the two full seasons of 'ah!my goddess' which i always wanted to, but can't ever find the first episode or the whole season.

next i'm going to see the oav and the movie (which i found out came before the series- for those who want to see it in order).

the site has so much anime to watch.... *eyesparkles a la anime*its like being in paradise. ^.^
