I'm not trying to advertise, but I do think some of you will like this website. I happen to be one of those who covers their head every day. However, I wasn't going to go with a huge scarf (Don't think my school would've liked that), and those doilies they have a shul don't even cover your head. scream So my Dad actually found this online. These are women's hand-crocheted (sp?) kippot, and they're beautiful. I have three. 3nodding

For those of you who AREN'T women, there is a joke every day. Click on the "What's So Funny?" link at the top. Enjoy!

These are really gorgeous! I do cover my head daily, but I also cover my hair, so these wouldn't be quite enough coverage for me. But I think I'll order some to give as gifts to friends who cover minimally, or who simply enjoy wearing hats for the fun of it. Maybe I'll just order a dozen or so of them, randomly chosen, and then have something to give to my friends who aren't hair-coverers.

Hm. You know, this would be a great way to introduce someone to the practice of covering. Someone who's about to get married; or who's married and hasn't yet begun to cover, but is considering it. I've got one friend who's considering covering, but isn't sure she'll like it. I've just decided to get her one of these and let her see if she could take having something on her head all the time. I bet she'll love it, and then pass it down if she ever decides to cover fully instead of partially.

Now that I've started, I can't imagine stopping cold turkey. It makes my morning routine so much easier when I can just throw a snood or a scarf on. Plus, even though people stare, I feel special! Spiritually, it's taught me a wonderful lesson.

I really did think they were pretty, but I don't have Jewish friends, or friends who even care for hats. Shame.

Interestingly, Jewish custom used to be that all girls began to cover their hair upon becoming bat mitzvah (age 12). However, gradually they stopped doing so, and now only married women need to cover. However, there's nothing in halachah to say that younger girls can't cover; only that they shouldn't do it every day, nor at synagogue -- because a young man might think they're married, and not consider them a potential bride!

No problem there. Even if I did go to the local synagogue, most of the kids belong to young couples. Also, I don't go out everyday. It's one of those pesky "I don't have a car nor any place to go" things. wink

Thankfully I'm starting college soon.

I don't cover my head, but those are almost too pretty that i'm considering getting one.
Really those are quite nice.
And the joke was very cute, too. :}
