Heng-Huo. Eternal Fire. Such a name might strike a person as a tittle of a brash, fiery individual whose emotion rage as wildly as a brush fire. If only I''d known just how much trouble the little creature would cause me...
Proulouge: Finding the Fire Bird
Living in a place of warm Summer days, humidity that made it feel like the town was being cooked in a kiln, forested areas were prone to catching fire from the heat lightening or simply the careless toss of a cigaret. The perfect day for a pool party or a swim in a lake. That was exactly the day''s agenda right now. Laying back in a lawn chair on the silt of the lake residing in the middle of the woods, sunglasses hiding the rays of light, and a layer of sunblock over the young woman''s skin. Who was that? Oh, that''s me. Julia, age nineteen, Free lance artist and part time babysitter for my younger sibling who was currently in Snapping Turtle Pond- our aptly named backyard lake. Our family owns a large plot of land now that we''ve moved from the city. Nothing fancy, it''s mostly trees, trees and a few woodland creatures. Like the turtles of the lake my ten year old brother had just picked up. "You know, there''s a reason they call this ''Snapping Turtle Pond''..." "What do you know? You''re not even swimming but you''re in a bathing suit!" The little squirt called back. Oh yes, Squirt- my semi-affectionate petname for my brother Marcus. Usually he''s the nicest kid in the world, until you decide to say something sarcastic or that he''s wrong. "I happen to know that that little turtle in your hands is going to give you a slap back to reality." And they say ''Mother knows best''; try listening to Big Sis. Just to prove he knew everything, the Squirt moved the turtle to look it in the face and blew a raspberry at it. Apparently, the turtle didn''t take kindly to the action as it''s leathery neck stretched to bite him on the nose. "YEOWCH!!!" He cried as he flung the turtle away as soon as it let go. Disappearing in the murky water. "What did I tell ya?" Looking up toward the top of the trees, one could see the heatwave taking it''s toll- there were vapors rising from the tops of the trees from the heat. Though, that''s what I thought they were from behind sunglasses. Within moments, the smell of fire reached us downwind, and rather quickly both my brother and I were standing beside one another gawking at the approaching blaze.
"We gotta get out of here!" Marcus called in a terrified voice, looking as though he were ready to bolt but not knowing to where. Taking my brother''s hand, I hurried to race in the opposite direction. "Take the long way back to the house, I have to alert the Fire department!" Giving my brother a push when he was able to run on his own, knowing which way to go now, I headed for a neighbor''s house that would be in more danger than my own home should the fire keep getting bigger. It was a hard run on bare feet, and from twigs, pine needles and pine cones, it wasn''t long until the soles of my feet ended up filthy and bleeding. Halfway there, I hadn''t thought that the fire would have shifted- the wind didn''t seem to be blowing in that direction after all. Skidding to a stop, my route was cut off by a wall of fire. Gaping at the monsterous red and orange beast that consumed all in it''s path, I could only stare in horror at the fire that might perhaps seal my own fate. It was then I heard the sound that made me turn to look where the fire started from- the sound of a bird, but no normal bird. Something large, something that I couldn''t put my finger on. It sounded almost like a song, but from the fire something started to rise. It looked like a giant falcon of fire, and all the blaze that was in the woods rose with it to make it even larger. Shadowing the forest, the lake and some of the homes before it was slowly dispersed into smoke.
Standing there in my bathing suit on trembling legs, staring at the sky as the creature''s shadow started to disappear, I could almost hear my heart as it pounded in my chest. The forest was left in charcoal- the fire completely disappeared. But.... What was that thing that had caused it? A bird of fire could only be a pheonix, but surely there was no such thing as that fairy tail. "I-I''m hallucinating.... Too much stress..." Shaking my head, I tried to get a grip on the situation. Something had to have started the blaze, and someone was certainly responsible. Starting into the desolation, I started to look for the source of the trouble. It was twenty minutes into the charcoal woods, going around nearly in circles, I spotted something bright white in the ashes. Hurrying over toward it, I could tell the little object was an egg. One really BIG egg... Squatting down next to it, I moved to pick it up and found that it was cool even after the great fire that was just in the surrounding area. If that thing I saw was a phoenix, then this had to be it''s egg... I''d just seen the phoenix rise from it''s ashes. Looking horrorstricken at the thought this egg would become a great monster again, I didn''t know what to do about the egg. If someone else found it and raised it, they wouldn''t know what they were in for, they wouldn''t know what I knew. Picking up the combersome egg, I held it to my chest and hurried to head back home. My mom was going to be worried about me.

(( gonk The damn move is cutting in on my RP time! Sorry for lack of postin'!))
In the following days, the little egg was kept in a warm place, hidden in the house far from anyone's notice; other than the one who had put it there that is. A stern lecture from her mother, and a very worried little brother ment that Julia was able to stay by herself in her little home without any distractions. Time spent to study the egg she had found.
It was kept in a closet, wrapped in a heating blanket, and every day Julia would go to it and examine the rather large egg. When she had found it was a little bigger than an Ostrich egg, though after a week's time the "little" egg grew bigger and bigger as well as warmer and warmer until it needed to be set in a washing basin filled with fine sand so it wouldn't burn the towels around it when it had been in the closet. By now, it was far too large to even move, and Julia hadn't the faintest idea on what to do with it. When would it hatch? Would it be a monsterously big bird? Was her bedroom in danger of being set ablaze? Julia thought of all these things as she stared at the egg from her bed. Sitting there watching it, she simply gave a small sigh. It'd been quiet, and it hadn't grown at all in the past day. It was then, as she sat lost in thought, that there was a little wobble from the egg. Curiously, Julia hadn't caught it at first- too busy wondering what she would do to explain such a rare sort of bird suddenly appearing in her house when it hatched. However, when it shook a bit more violently, and a small crack appeared in the shell, Julia gave a gasp and shot up to her feet.
The small crack started out small, a lot like the egg itself, before starting to get bigger, and growing with more violent cracking and a great deal more heat from inside. Making the shell seem as though the burning heat from before was little more than a luke-warm simmer. Julia was keeping back, shielding her eyes to the waves of heat coming from the inside of the egg, but she did see something purple come shooting out of the egg and leaving fragments of the egg shell fell onto the floor and left rather defined scorch marks in the carpeting. The purple "thing" looked almost like a shoe, but it retracted into the shell again before Julia could tell what it was. The heat died down, seeming to have been some sort of immense insulation from inside the egg to keep the supposed "Chick" alive. Instead of something purple coming from the dark innards of the egg, a red something started to push through. The hole started to get larger, and the egg shells crumbling to the ground were far less extreme now that the insides of the egg were cooling at a rapid pace. A small noise, like a grunt, came from inside. Slowly but surely, the thing rose from the hole when it was big enough. Wet from being within the embyotic fluids, a little shake of the red 'thing' sent the liquid onto the floor like a dog after it's bath. Turning slowly, it appeared the 'thing' was hair, and within a moment the creature, which looked nothing like a phoenix, was blinking in surprise at the light of it's new surroundings and curiousity at the new creature before it.

The purple, wet, and strangely adorable little creature came out of the egg shell with a number of crackling fragments faling to the floor. It didn't know how to use it's legs properly, and quickly tumbled out into a heap onto the floor. Blinking as it looked around, the little creature, perhaps it would be best to call it a child, glanced around as it tried to soak in the entire scene. Wings of miniscule proportions, far too small to lift it yet, flicked the ooze coating the little tyke away from it as the little fella sat up rubbing it's eyes as if just waking up from a nap.
Julia had no idea what to do as she watched the little creature on the floor staring around the room before fixing it's gold eyes on her. Curiousity, intensity, and some sort of inner fire burned bright within those golden irises and Julia almost felt hypnotized. Realizing now that she was still standing, and a look of shock and awe remained on her face. Slowly, she squatted down to level with the little 'child' and reached out a hand to him. "Hey little guy...." She murmured, assuming from the way it looked that it was a 'he'.
A little squeak came from the supposed "phoenix", as if it was trying to speak like a bird before it started to sound more normal. "H-he-hey..." It repeated with a smile, reaching out and grasping hold of her hand in curiousity, and looking it over as the embyotic slime he'd been covered with inside the egg gave a loud 'squish' noise when he shook hands with his new owner. A sheepish, if not slightly forced smile came to Juila's face as she let go and shook off the goo from her hand. "I think someone needs a bath..."

Dear Diary, Since getting Heng-Huo, my skills as a babysitter have been put tp the test. The little pheonix has certainly had fun learning to control his powers, though it's not been a picnic for me: when we went outside to grill hotdogs for dinner last week, I found that when I turned my back for a moment to put a hot dog in a bun, the little guy had gotten hold of a hot coal and was chewing on it as if it were a jaw breaker. I nearly shrieked in surprise!
He seems impervious to fire and heat- however, cold seems to have the opposite effect. He can't stand it when it's lower than fiftey five degrees, and if I'm not careful, the little guy might just set himself on fire to keep warm. Can you imagine how I had to explain that to one of my friends when they came over to visit and saw Heng-Huo in the back yard, looking like he was constipated for a moment, before his wings combusted into massive fiery feathers! This little guy is really a mystery...
Never, -never- try giving that little fella a bath.... Heng-Huo had been playing outside in the mud after a rain and when I called him to come in he was completely filthy. I told him to come inside to wash, but when I started running the water for a bath he shrieked and ran outside. I asked him how was he supposed to get clean and regretted ever doing so. The phoenix burst into flames and the mud quickly hardened and fell off. I don't think germs can survive the heat of a blaze... maybe he'll be ok...

Dear Diary,
The strangest thing happened today... Well, maybe not the strangest, but certainly stranger than normal. A month or so ago, Heng-huo and a number of other Mysterians had disappeared in order to save Sian, an expert on these weird creatures. Apparently, Heng-Huo isn't the only one that's been sent to this world from another plane. It seems after we'd gotten out after saving Sian, something -else- came out as well.
It was starting to get dark, and Heng-Huo and I were sitting outside next to the fire pit in the yard watching the snow come down outside the awning. Had Heng-Huo been a normal child he'd be in serious danger, considering the fact he was sitting on the brick edge of the fire pit with a hand in the fire to shape the flame into different things- a dragon that rose up and blew smoke before returning to the little kindling blaze, or a flaming butterfly that flew around the awning before becoming too cold in the winter air it disappeared into smoke itself. These little tricks were quite amusing, and I must say I was laughing and clapping as I watched what my little phoenix could now accomplish. Though it wasn't long before we head the soft 'thud' of snow that had collected on a tree branch falling to the ground followed by a loud mewing.
I hurried to see what had happened, and with a blanket pulled around me I went to see what sort of cat had been burried in the snow. Kneeling beside the snow drift, I scooped the snow out of the way before gasping at what I saw there; a kitten with the most absurd red markings and wings to boot! The little creature nosed it's way from the snow, and climbed onto my lap. I suppose, given the fact it was so abnormal, and the fact I couldn't just leave a kitten out to freeze in the snow, I picked it up and started to take it to Heng-Huo to have a look at it.
