OK, yeah, I didn't feel like capitalizing in the title...so shoot me, I don't care, honestly. If this seems rather...well, random, it might be, it might not. It depends.
I've been wondering recently what it is we consider to be so good about humanity. We hold ourselves higher than all other forms of existence on this planet, but for what reason? If you put a weaponless man in front of pretty much any other predator, he's getting mauled. 90% of the insects on this planet are dangerous to us, and most of them are mortally dangerous.
We're weak, but we control. We're no smarter than some creatures, and most of us are soft and foolish. So what is it that we like about ourselves? I've been thinking about it for about a week...so far, nothing yet.
I'm also wondering why some people cannot stand to see another happy or doing well, and have to try to destroy them. I'm 18, living on my own, still in school, and with a part-time job until the end of the school year, and I think that I'm doing remarkably well for myself. However, my former best friend (I've mentioned him before, I believe) and two of his friends have decided that they're going to damage my character in every way they can...I don't care about the attacks, because anyone who listens to them and doesn't form opinions of their own is foolish and not worth my time, but I'd still like to know what drives them...I've done nothing to deserve it.
And then there's the matter of my growing madness. I've spent the better part of a week with a constant shredding pain in my mind. Not my head, my mind. I'm starting to worry about myself...I just don't know what to do about this existence anymore...hell, I think my g1rlfriend is no longer living, and I can't cry about it, because I don't have it in me...one of my friends is falling victim to manipulation about my character, what I mentioned earlier, and since she doesn't know what to believe, is currently existing in a Schrödinger-like superposition of angry and not, regarding me at least...
So yeah...discuss, if'ee will.

You DIDN'T capitalize the title! Who the hell do you think you are?!
Er... ahem, anyways, about the whole humanity deal. To be honest with you, it's funny you mentioned this here; I was ruminating this over my mind just the other day. We humans are really pleased with ourselfs and our so-called dominance, but I agree with you. But here's my side of the story: what the hell difference does it make? If one day people decided we are no better than cows, would we have to worship them? Oh wait, they already do that on China, nevermind. My point is, whether we are superior or not, doesn't change a thing.
Now, on to the next issue we go. Well, I'm not people's person, but I take it this is just jealousy, hatred or whatever else towards you. You see, nobody likes to be contradicted. Do you? Me neither. The thing is, some people are a tad touchy about it, so they feel like you have to PAY for such a crime.
So lastly, haven't we all felt squashed under the "what am I doing here" thought? Hell, I felt like that just now. And I came to a realization. For me, do you know what's the meaning of life? To live. Yeah, sounds stupid, but think with me. What the hell else can we do? You can't change the world. Neither can I. Of course some people will every here and there, but that's a one in a million type a deal.
I guess this is a sorta optimistic point of view, but hell, might help anyway. My advice to you is: don't care. But like the wise man used to say, "If advice was a good thing, people wouldn't give them, they would steal them". So I'll leave it up to you wink

Does 'I think my girlfriend is no longer living' equal 'My girlfriend may be dead'?
Because, if that's the case, an obituary might be found to put your mind at ease.

Hmm...
I honestly don't see how a race can view themselves as mighty when they find injury in other funny... or the harm of "lesser" beings funny. confused Plus, animals I don't think concern themselves with being over everything. If anything, animals would be higher (in the sense that animal and human are separate) because while we have changed things to suit us... they just adapt. (Shh... don't let them realize they outnumber the human race. lol.)
Of purpose... something Dad told me made me think it. Am I supposed to be here? Two things is either I was, and so I am, or I wasn't but still am. Either way, someone once said that purpose isn't decided... you have to find it.
And... I'm at the part in life where I will soon be on my own. I haven't a clue where to go. I'm hoping somewhat that, if there is fate and destiny, I'll be guided to it as I felt I have somewhat been guided my whole life. I felt in school I couldn't fail unless I seriously made an attempt to. I feel like I'm just preparing for something... not just life itself. Whatever it is... I feel like there is something I must do, but I haven't left a PostIt to remind me. sweatdrop
However... I know I can say I hope things get better for you. I hope you figure things for yourself. I would help if I could... but I don't know how I could.

As discussed in another topic, this isn't what separates humanity from the rest of the animal kingdom.
2) I've been in a funk for several weeks now, constantly moldering over the questions concerning life and meaning. It seems that what once was meaningful to me has lost all value and that what once provided satisfaction is no longer satisfactory. I feel extremely lost and empty. I feel like there is no place for me in this world, that I am not able to be of help in any way. I am wasting my life away.

breaking of dawn 1) I'm not sure whether being able to adapt to something is mightier than changing something to adapt to us. As discussed in another topic, this isn't what separates humanity from the rest of the animal kingdom. Still... personally I would think it would be better to live with what is already there... making full effective use of the surrounding than to trample it over to just make it "brand new". Then again... it's just my personal view. I know that in my opinion I would love to have a house just built in nowhere... than to have it built almost mass manufactured within like groups of houses... gonk It's personal preference and opinion... I don't seek to change views. 3nodding breaking of dawn 2) I've been in a funk for several weeks now, constantly moldering over the questions concerning life and meaning. It seems that what once was meaningful to me has lost all value and that what once provided satisfaction is no longer satisfactory. I feel extremely lost and empty. I feel like there is no place for me in this world, that I am not able to be of help in any way. I am wasting my life away. Part of me is just... "glad" to see that there are others thinking the same way... Yet, I begin to wonder just why we are all thinking this way. If there wasn't a greater purpose... wouldn't we all know that? It's like you know something is there in the dark, or that the thing you are looking for is in the same room as you... but it's not in plain sight. ninja

Humanity is dark, darker than most other species by far. Humans will kill for enjoyment if allowed to. The ability that separates humankind from the animals is the ability to control and the love of that ability. Humans love a feeling of control, and it motivates everything in their lives. For example, if I analyze this action, leaving my opinion; I am leaving my veiw in hopes of controling your veiw on humankind. A human will do anything in his power to have control over something else, but the thing a human likes to control most is another human. A human likes a challenge almost as much as he likes control, and the most challenging thing to control is another human. This is most evident in children. A child will make fun of another child so he can A, control that child's emotions by causing him to be angry (the desired result of taunting) and B, to control the crowd by making them join in the humiliation of the victim. A human does not like to be controled, because it takes away some of his ability to control others.

A human does not like to be controled, because it takes away some of his ability to control others. What does it mean if the person being taunted turns the whole thing around to taunting the said taunter? As in... I saw one person that was yelling and such at another... the person being yelled at just said one sentence, and the other person began to yell again. I simply can't understand how just an insult gets people happy. I mean that once I was doing work in class, and there were two people that wouldn't stop making fun of me, saying I need to get to work and such. I finished my work, started to draw in a book of mine (game ideas), and the person said I should finish my homework. I dig it out, show him, and say "where's yours?", which left him at a loss for words. Do people just argue for control? I must have a screwed up mind if I can't make sense of any of it... sweatdrop It's like the economics statement that people only do things to further their own ends. Arguably, yes, things could work to someone's end if they simply make people happy... but honestly, that would have to be subconcious for me, because I'm happy to make others happy. At work even, the waiters usually need money more than me... so sometimes when customers specifically give me money... I leave it on the table, especially if the people didn't leave a tip. Getting two waters out of a vending machine... I gave one to someone I didn't know. confused ... Do people just like things being so complicated in reasoning? xd

aaarhus What does it mean if the person being taunted turns the whole thing around to taunting the said taunter? Perhaps it simply means that the one being taunted has some courage and is standing up for himself? aaarhus As in... I saw one person that was yelling and such at another... the person being yelled at just said one sentence, and the other person began to yell again. I simply can't understand how just an insult gets people happy. By whichever means he knows how to use. Your example seems a bit unclear, though. Situations like this can be explained in a number of ways and as we are missing several variables, I can't be a hundred percent certain that the one I imagine is the right one. aaarhus - example - Do people just argue for control? What other reason would you be able to come up with? Eventually, I think, that is the only reason people argue. aaarhus Do people just like things being so complicated in reasoning? xd *snerks* Mostly? Yes. Arguing has been turned into an art form. Mastering it is a worthy endeavour as it will be useful in your life. However, that does not mean that anyone who has mastered it will use it for 'worthy causes'. Much like, when children bully, they (are supposed to) learn the boundaries of the social system. What is allowed, what isn't, how much can I pull off, that kind of thing. As well as teach them how to behave in certain situations, giving them a bigger pool of experiences to draw from when faced with similar or dissimilar situations in the future. But back to the adults for a moment.. I know that I, at times, am partial to sarcasm, and off-handed comments that upset people (possibly even more, depending on their humour at the time the conversation is started), but I do it because the way I see it, they deserve to hear those things. To others, it may come across as intentionally baiting a person, but to me, it is simply telling someone the truth and letting them know that what they're doing isn't especially bright. Generally speaking, that is. I'm only human, so I'm allowed the occasional bad day.. sweatdrop But, as with all things that humans do together, there is a need to be the best. And one way of testing just how good you are, is by doing things like you mentioned in your post, aaarhus. Cougar Draven I only wish it were that easy for me...nothing's easy for me anymore...my only link to her severed the connection last week, and I've been worried sick for three weeks...I've basically given up...fate had other plans, I'm sure. I can understand how worry would tear at you, but from what little you have mentioned, it seems like the easy way out, though. Naturally, you are free to inform me I am overstepping my boundaries, and that I do not, in fact, know everything there is to know as that would drastically change my opinion of your situation, and subsequently tell me to leave the topic alone.
