 Are there any other pairings that remind you of Cloud and Tifa? In real life, other final fantasies, animes--- anything! heart
Let's hear it!
For me, it's got to be Locke and Celes from Final Fantasy VI. Celes is the independent female who can kick a** when it comes to fighting. Celes is strong-willed, knows what she's doing, and knows how to help others. Just like Tifa, when it comes to helping herself... well... Sometimes she can get a little confused and troubled. But, she's always got that special *someone* to help her regain her senses again.
EX:
When Celes is stranded alone, she finds Locke's bandana. It's this alone that motivates her again. Maybe Locke is out there somewhere--- alive!

Celes is hanging by a ledge in this scene, much like when Cloud was hanging off the ledge over Aeris's flower garden. Though it's not precisely the same, it clicked instantly in my mind. Oh, and look! A *promise*. Tifa and Cloud shared a promise. Many other FF couples also share promises. I'm pretty sure Cloud and Aeris, shared no promises. Aeris may have promised Cloud, but they didn't both agree on a promise together, like many other Final Fantasy pairings do.
Ah, but I'm straying.
As for Locke--- yeah, he's not really like Cloud at all, lmao. Besides for being a smartass/jerk at times. Locke's an excellent leader and has a very stable/laid back personality. I think he acts like Cloud does to Tifa at times, with the way he treats Celes.
A lot of people like to say that "long distance relationships don't work, so Cloti=BOO". Locke and Celes is all about distance for some time. But look how far they went together, and how loyal they stayed to one another. Look at Tidus and Yuna. Zidane and Garnet. It's all about distance but most of all, RE-UNITING. Which Cloti has. :] Most Cleris fans say Cloud and Tifa can not work because of distance, but isn't CloudXAeris all about distance? -laughs- I mean, she's in the lifestream and he's on earth, rigfht? ;] The common pattern is of distance and re-uniting... it seems that Cleris is left out from this pattern. : O Just something to think about... xD
Also, in the end of FFVI, it shows Celes and Locke in a sunset scene, which reminded me of how Cloud and Tifa had a sunset scene. :]
Not to mention that many consider Celes to be the "secondary heroine". Many people also say that about Tifa. Terra was the main heroine of FFVI, yes, but did she end up with Locke? No. Thus: The main heroine is not always in love with the main hero and vis versa. There was original art of Terra and Locke together. Did that make them a pairing? No.
Rendering 'Cleris' art by Amano useless? I'd say so. -smug grin-

Lol, that reminds me of InuYasha. xd It does sound very "Clerisy" too. xd
Pairings that are similar to Cloti in terms of a "promise":
SoraxKairi
TidusxYuna
SquallxRinoa
ZackxAeris
CelesxLocke
And someone can add to the list. xd Anyways, most of the main pairings have a promise attached to them. Though Cloud technically promised to be Aeris' bodyguard, I think Cloti's promise is much more significant.

I was only saying that a lot of Cleris fans claim Cloti can't work because of distance, and then I said that Cleris is all about distance. Remember? ;] What I meant by the statement you quoted, is that Aeris and Cloud have technically, not re-united. And that puts them out of the loop.
KH doesn't count, and I'd consider FFT AU. But for the other scenes you mentioned, sure Cloud *saw* her again and was *with* her again, but not REALLY. He had to watch her walk away in the end. Return to the lifestream equaling the distance. Their love ended with distance. I'm not saying that they won't ever be re-united again after this or that Cloud will stop thinking about her, but I'm saying that it didn't end the way most FF couples did.
I don't remember Cloud PROMISING to be Aeris's body guard. If I recall correctly, he said that he would. He didn't promise. If I'm wrong, please correct me. :] In game proofz would be nice.
The date that is optional. And Cloud didn't really willingly accept any of the dates. xD The girls end up pushing him out the door as he says,
"Hey."
I guess the fact that he doesn't turn and walk away afterwards can be considered as him "accepting". But Cloud didn't promise Aeris he'd go on a date with her. Whenever she asked about it, he never said anything. rofl
Oh! I forgot about that promise. That one I will give you. The one about the Highwind, I mean. ;]
Yes, that is true, besides Locke promising to protect his female companions due to his passion for Rachel. I don't remember anything like that happening. :/ Yes, the story with Rachel and Locke is quite sad, but it's obvious that Celes is the one Locke ends up loving. Not because she reminds him of Rachel, and not because he sees Rachel in her. I can't deny he's motivated by Rachel in the early parts of the game, though. It's one of those things that troubles him for awhile, and whereas he will never forget her, he's moved on to Celes. Not right away of course.
But anyway, how is it Clerisy? The only thing I can think of, is Aeris and Zack. Zack being her first love, and then she ends up loving Cloud for who he really is. Kind of like with Locke. He loved Rachel, but then he moves on to Celes, loving her for who she really is. I guess that works... in a sense. xD
If you are refering to the fact that Locke had to see his lover die a terrible death--- well, I don't consider Aeris's death scene "Cleris", so I can't be of any help to you there, lol.
Oh! And about what you said about the bandana relating to when Cloud rips of his sleeve to see Aeris's ribbon--- HM~ I never thought about that! I guess in a way, this couple can relate a bit to Cleris too. *_*

Well, actually that didn't happen in the series, only the Manga. So I guess I stopped reading after watching the crap-tacular ending. Anyway, I agree Twin. Clotis promise is way more significant. biggrin

Hey Pink, as a super duper LockexCeles geek I feel obligated to point out Rachel told Locke to move on. Though the game, like FFVII, never made a set canon, all the evidence pretty much shows Locke would go on to be with Celes. Anyway, as for the how bodyguard promise....it just seemed too businessy to me. I'll admit I'm a bit bias but I think that was Cloud's Zack persona right then, a jack of all trades ladys man. : /

Though the game, like FFVII, never made a set canon, all the evidence pretty much shows Locke would go on to be with Celes. Anyway, this following quote relates to how I'm comparing Locke and Celes to Cloud and Tifa. xD
This scene, is where Tifa is without the one she loves, and has to go find him. During this time, you are in control of Tifa and the other party members JUST like when you had to control Celes, who wanted to find Locke and the others.

Wow CecilRosa really is like Cloti, haha. Rosa is very emotional, but can still fight. I'd say she doesn't have the same spunk as Tifa, but she's devoted to one man.
