Ever feel like your not appreciated in your drumline?
I started marching after everyone b/c I didn't go to band camp and they expect me to be at the same level as everyone in a week! And after a month I could stay on step the whole show. And they never notice! They only notice when I'm offstep or out of line and it annoys the hell out of me. So when my section co captin told me I messed up bad I cussed her out! haha! any of you guys have this problem?

um...just because you didn't go to band camp doesn't mean that you can do poorly and not get static about it. granted the people in your section should help you out not just bag on you. and no one is ever noticed for staying on step.
I had to learn our entire show (including music) for a second time in a week because normaly i play cymbals, but one of the bass drummers got dropped from the line, and i was treated the same as the people who had been doing the show for longer because when your behind, you have to practice more so you will catch up with the rest of the band.
being a jerk to your co capitan for telling you you messed up is just lame. they are telling you you made a mistake so you wont make it again. just take the criticisum with grace, dont act like a spoiled brat and then whine about it on the internet. thats just childish, don't you think?

I feel unappriciated at times. I work really hard and my section leader would still yell at me and not the others even if they were out of line by like 5 feet. Then one of the upperclass men was like move here and another was like move here and my leader was all like stop moving and they started arguing in a triangle around me i wanted to cry i am only a freshi and it felt like i couldnt do anything right I was rarely motivated. Sometimes i wanted to quit but I luv it too much.

I didn't get to go to band camp my freshman year and I had to learn the entire show, music and drill, in two days, and I didn't know anything about marching at all, and middle school had not prepared me well for the level of music we were expected to play. So it can be done. You just have to work at it: suck it up and stop complaining while learning to take constructive critisism.

I think that you SHOULD have gone to camp. I also think that it's not that they only notice you messing up, It's just that YOU only notice them noticing you mess up! And they probably do notice you doing well, but everyone else is doing just as well(constantly) and there is no reason that they should say something! The point is that the wrong things need to be addressed, so they can be fixed, but the right things are fine being left alone!

person who posted this topic, ur soooooooooooo lucky u actually got to be in ur show after being out for a week i had to be an alternate even though i was one of the best marchers in the band everyone i talked to, including band directors, thought i should be in the show the directors told me that once i learned the show i could take sum1s spot but theyu changed the show soooooooooo much that it was completely impossible to learn the show i was out on the grid for hoooooooours practicing another kids show to challenge them but i didnt learn all of it waaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooo impossible
even if ur not appreciated, u r if everyone told everyone when they were doing sumthing good everytime they did sumthing good, that would take way too long they r just telling u what u need to correct dont get mad u should appreciate being helped and being in ur show not just being in ur show, being on drumline
i know ill be appreciated next year cuz i will be one of the best marchers this strong gymnast is an insanely good marcher so of course hes the best so unless ne freshman r good ill be the 2nd best marcher i wont need people to tell me when im doing good i rather have them telling me when im doing something wrong
ur co captain, or whatever, was trying to help u dont get mad now of course they rnt going to appreciate u no one likes those kids who r butts about people helping them even if they r saying it mean they want to be champions

[ ] I've felt unappreciated in marching band countless times. I never cursed anyone out because of it though. I have gotten mad to the point of almost screaming in the middle of practice (Trust me, that only happens once in a blue moon), but I just kept quiet about it. [ ]
