Most bands in rock today are mostly void of talent, we need a truly great band to shock the scene and stir up some hidden talent.

I totally disagree; there are many original, creative, and interesting bands out there today. Unfortunately, the music industry for the most part has them supressed under a tide of obnoxious pop. But if you actually spend the time checking out new bands, I guarantee you will find something you like.
The internet is doing wonders in this regard. It's easier than ever to find independent artists and listen to their stuff. My recommendation: If someone mentions a new band that they like and you've never heard of before, find that band's Myspace or a video on Youtube and listen. I used to believe the same thing as you guys until I started doing this and was proven utterly wrong.

yah, most o the greater bands are hidden under the more built up or popular genres. I personally like shadows fall, rammstein, in flames and tenacious d the best. these arent that greatly known although they are some of the bigger ones they have some real talent. shadows fall has a great drummer and lead guitarist, rammstein's songs are well written and composed, tenacious d may be a more joke band but they are well written too, they just have a unique voice. in flames im more new to but they are good so far too. these may be more metal but theyre good. but i also agree that we a need another true set of visionaries like the beatles and people like them. people that can completely redefine the genres as they are understood today. it may be more difficult because of the increased amount of diversion in music. theres jut so many different types compared to the past. the next big change may occur in some kind of pop or even rap. its impossible to tell, even though there have been changes in the past there is no pattern in the times so there is no way to tell the time frames that this may happen in.
