A jingling noise heralded the young Kuniku’s arrival. Suzuki came bounding across the snowfield, her red striped body clearly visible for all to the see. The sound that followed her wherever she went made her one of the most noticeable creatures on Hokkaido and she loved it

Suzuki spied a cluster of pine trees and hurried towards them, desiring a nice warm place to curl up. She hadn’t spent her whole life in this snow covered place not to know that there was a storm coming. Not a big one, but she didn’t want to be caught out in an open field. It would be soooo cold.

Suzu scampered under the shelter of the trees. The pine needles beneath her feet would make a nice blanket.

Celyn pawed through the snow, sniffing the air every so often as he went in no particular direction. The wind started to pick up, the temperature dropping even further below zero than it always was- making him shiver slightly. He may have been born in this winter wonderland, and thoroughly loved the snow, he wasn’t as fluffy as others and got cool a lot faster. Pulling up his green and red striped leg warmers his topaz gaze spotted a circle of pine trees not to far away. He thought he heard the sound of bells near them but dismissed it for the wind.

Bounding over he tucked himself just within the confined of the branches. He started doing slow, deliberate spins, the grow around his feet rumbling slightly as holly bushes popped up to surround him. He laid down then. Feeling both warmer and a little exhausted as he closed his eyes.

The young Kuniku had laid down on her back beneath the pines with her feet in the air, inspecting them throughly. Oh, how she disliked it when they got cold. It was then that she thought she heard something. Sitting up with a jingle she spied something green and red beneath he pines with her, not too far away. Suzu’s ears twitched and then she gave a giggle. A friend!

“Hiiiii- Yow!” Suzuki had bounded over without thinking and collided with the newly made holly bushes. “Ouchie.” Wringling her sore nose, which had gotten a little spiked, Suzu sat back clumsily and the peered through the holly at the resting form beyond with bright light blue eyes. “Hello! Are you awake?” As she sat there she gave off a light minty scent and there was a jingle whenever she shifted.

If the Kuniku ad been asleep, he wouldn’t be anymore.

Celyn laid there, thoroughly enjoying the shelter from the wind and cold. He was just dosing off when a yelp shook all hopes of sleep from him. He knew another kuniku had made the unfortunate mistake and gotten too close- getting pricked in the process. Having made the bush, he was much like a spider and didn't get pricked by the bushes anymore.

He opened one eye lazily to inspect the new arrival. It was a red and white striped female, who gave off a pleasing minty aroma and was obvious the cause of the bells he heard earlier.

"I am now," he replied with a yawn, opening his eyes fully to penetrate her blue gaze with his own gold one. The part of the bush dividing them retracted as he sat up. "My name is Celyn. And who are you?"

“Celyn.” The female tested the name a few times, meeting his gaze with an unwavering blue gaze. Eventually she gave a firm nod, giving his name her approval. “Celyn.”

Getting over her holly spiking quickly Suzuki stood up, tail wriggling back and forth playfully. Once the holly was completely gone she waited a whole of three seconds before bounding to his side and attempting to cuddle up against him.

“Celyn-kun! I’m cold!” She wriggled a little and then looked up at him cutely. “I’m Suzuki.”

Celyn would of flinched at the sudden closeness of the female, if he was one to care. ‘She’s certainly forward’ he thought before finding that the warmth was actually nice.

“You’re cold? At least you have a warm coat,” he pulled his legwarmers up absentmindedly as the wind swirled the snow even more. It would have been a beautiful sight, if it wasn’t the cause of his numb paws. He reluctantly pulled away from Suzuki and walked around the perimeter of the trees, leaving a good amount of holly bushes sprouting up in his wake. He made a full circle, making sure to get it as thick as possible so as to block most of the cold. When he was finished, he made his way back to Suzuki, sitting close to her but not cuddling up as she was.

“There, that should help keep the wind out until this storm dies down. What is with this weird storm anyways. It was perfectly clear about an hour ago.” His eyes were intently trained on the patch of gray sky you could make out through the trees. Was this some strange piece of something greater? He wanted to find out.

((I thought I'd incorporate the other storm in. I just thought it was funny that there were two storms going on at the same time.))

“But I’m so small!” Suzuki whined and pouted. “I have to run around all the time to keep warm.” When he pulled away she sat up and watched him walk in a circle around her, creating a convenient shield from the wind. Once he was finished she gave him a wide smile. “I like youuuu!” It would be good to have a friend that could make a snug warm place!

Standing Suzuki began digging lightly at the pine needles, pushing them around to make a comfortable little nest. Then she curled herself up in the little hollow she had made. “Yes. I’m glad I decided to come down off the high mountain today. I wouldn’t want to be stuck up there today.” Her ears twitched. “At least it won’t be too big. Just really cold.”

Suzu tilted her head slightly to look at him with one bright eye. “Why are you so far away?” She inquired. Far away to her meaning that they weren’t practically lying on each other.

“But at least you have thicker fur,” he crooned, clearly jealous as he pulled at striped cloth which warmed him. It wasn’t all bad though, he didn’t mind not being as furry as other kuniku here.

Celyn was still musing about the odd weather while Suzuki made her nest. He barely caught what she had said about the storm. His eyes drooped as he listened to her; clearly constant creation of holly tired him out. When she commented on their proximity, he sighed and closed the few inches between them before he completely laid down. He wasn’t found of closeness, but with it being this cold, body heat could hurt.

“Is that better,” he said with a yawn, his tongue curling over as his head automatically fell between his paws.

“I have to groom it all the time.” Suzu clearly wasn’t going to give up over who was the colder one, though she seemed to have gone off track with her retorts. “Yes, much better.” She mumbled as he scooted closer, drowsiness sweeping over her. The warmth of Celyn’s body and the whistling off the wind as the snowstorm finally hit, lulled her into a deep sleep.

She awoke at night. The snowstorm had cleared and the sky that could be seen through the pines was dotted with millions of stars. Suzu yawned and carefully sat up, now wanting to wake up her companion, well… not yet anyway. The female’s stomach gave a little growl of hunger.

What could she have to eat? Suzu gave Celyn a little nudge to see if he was close to waking up.

Celyn was on the border of the dream world and Suzuki’s worlds came as a blur. He could of swore she said something about grooming, but was too far gone to really care. As he drifted, his body became more relaxed, the heat they shared causing him to curl closer to his companion unconsciously.

He dreamed vaguely of the storm- an ominous presence always close behind him as he tried to figure out the cause. He also vaguely remember Suzu being there- possibly complaining about the cold- but the dream faded just as fast as it had come.

He was awoken by his red companion prodding him. He yawned as he blinked the sleep from his eyes before looking at her, wondering why she had woken him. It was then he noticed the wind wasn’t blowing. “Did the storm stop?”

“Yep, the storm is over.” Suzu smiled down at him and then apreared mildly concerned. “Were you dreaming when I woke you? I’m sorry…” She looked at him with a pathetic, almost pleading look. “But I’m hungry.” In an attempt to prove her point she draped herself across his side and waited for her stomach to gurgle. “Can you make the holly go away?” The spiky plants were still around them and Suzuki didn’t want to have to climb over them to go find food.

Celyn nodded when he heard the storm was over. Suzu’s next statement threw him off a little but he gave her a reassuring smile. “No, it’s fine. I don’t even remember exactly what it was about.”- by this time the female’s stomach had growled, causing a reply grumble to emanate from his stomach.- “Guess we’re both hungry.” Quickly he sat up- playfully dropping Suzuki in the snow- and started removing the holly from the circle, calling something along the lines of ‘I can’t get rid of them with you laying on me’ back to her. An amused grin was plastered to his face as a soft breeze passed through the new opening. “Shall we find something then, Suzu-chan?”

Suzuki rolled off Celyn’s back with a giggle. Falling limp upon the pine needles she watched him with a smile as he went about getting rid of the holly. She soon scrabbled to her feet and stretched her back, bending her upper body towards the ground. “Oh yes!” She was glad that he was coming with her, friends should stick together.

Nudging him playfully as she passed by, Suzu left the protection of the holly and then ran full-pelt until she reached the edge of the trees. A fresh layer of snow was piled high and she leapt straight into it. Even after living in Hokkaido all her life she never got sick of playing in snow.

But it wasn’t long before she ran beneath the protective pines again and shook the cold white flakes from her fur. “What are we going to eat Celyn-kun? There’s a human village around here somewhere or…” She thought about what they could have, her head tilted cutely to the side.

Celyn watched as his friend ran out into the snow. He couldn't help but laugh; he hadn't really played in the snow since his pup days and watching her made him nostalgic. She quickly came back though, shaking the flakes of her fur and onto his. He shook the now melted drops onto the ground and pondered her question.

"We could go to the village, if you want. I think there is a patch of eatable plants nearby too."
