four mallets hurts like crazy at first, but later, it doesnt hurt at all. and, its really fun. ^.^ when i was learning four mallets, my instructor was like; "does it hurt? good." sweatdrop and the seniors in our pit all have really weird bump things on their fingers from playing four mallets.

At my school everyone learns Steven's Grip. I haven't tried Burton Grip. But I basically love Steven's.
I think have better technique with 4 mallets then with 2, lol
But when I learned 4 mallets I was an 8th grader, and it hurt like a butt, because we were just starting to learn. But since I'm used to it now it doesn't hurt at all for me, lol

My Demonic Angel personally i just started. It was painful sad Any other bad experiances or tips to avoid the pain? It helps to just let it hurt for now, then let it blister then form a callus, so it never hurts again.

soul reaper slimjay im like super uber awesome with 4 mallets and im just a freshman 3nodding Lol, nice.... Me too, but my director doesn't know much about mallets (he specializes in drums), so I don't know if I'll get the chance to learn more sad And I actually thought I was good at mallets! [But after hearing about 8-mallet songs? Not so sure about that.]

I play xylophone and use Burton's. Techinically, for this indoor season, I wasn't supposed to learn four-mallet technique...until we got the music for the show (The Race...for anyone who's wondering.) At first, my section leader didn't believe me when I said I needed to learn four mallets , she thought I was kidding. These were her exact words: "Four mallets on a xylo? Shut up, Casey, that's impossible!"
Evidently, four mallets on xylo is rare.

i think four mallets for bells may be somewhat unusual. XP because the keys are a lot smaller, so it's akward to play small intervals on. we learned the stevens grip in our pit. ^.^ independent strokes are killing me. TT.TT
