I only read this book when I was very young, so I don't remember much of the book. I saw the movie and its remake though, and loved both of them (though I'm assuming the book is better, because they always are). Carrie's mother always pissed me off SO much scream And of course I love the homecoming scene. smile

Carrie was one of my first Stephen King books. smile
I saw most of the movie, and I have to say I like the book a lot more. Especially how Carrie's mother dies. In the movie it's really one of those stereotypical stabbed to death scenes, where as in the book it's got a psychological aspect to it, because she literally describes what she's doing when she stops her mother's heart.

I did like how Carrie's mother died in the book. Never saw the movie. I really didn't like the book, though. Too much boring stuff was going on to lead up to an ending that I didn't find very climatic or "grisly," as a few critics say. Sure, she goes mad and blows up the school indirectly and goes on a little rampage before dying, but most of the book didn't enthrall me. His later works (I mean immediately later works: Salem's Lot and the Shining and everything afterwards) were much better. Are much better. Present tense. Gah.

Carrie is one of my favorite books. the movies changed way too much and missed so many important parts. the book was 793.528% better than the movies.

Haha, that's a very exact percentage. Did you conduct a study or something? :p

And yeah, you're probably right. Movies are never, ever as good as their books. Unless the book was written AFTER the movie which is really kind of dumb anyway.

I thought the book was mediocre, although I did admire the power that Carrie possessed. I guess I've always been a fan of telekinetic ability. 3nodding

None of the movies made from Stephen King books hold a candle to the books. The way he writes is so descriptive and done in such a way that a movie can't convey what is written. Books hold a lot more detail than movies ever could without being four or five hours long, so obviously the movies won't be as good as the books.

For Carrie however, the movie was pretty good in my opinion. It didn't have everything the book did, but you can't expect that. In the book though, I thought that the ending could have had more action or suprise. It was very predictable, just like most of his books, and didn't make me go "Wow..." when I was finished.

Yes, it was a good book from Stephen King, but his writing has gotten so much better since then. I like his more recent novels in comparison to Carrie. There are just so many of them!

Yes, she did indeed. I really did like her performance. I never saw the remake of the movie and don't want to. Carrie was on TV one night in October of this year and I decided what the hell. I agree about the way her mother died, also. The movie didn't do it justice. The other thing the movie didn't do justice was the part where Carrie is dying and she goes through Sue's head. That part was great.

I know exactly what you are saying, the book was a little slow to get to the point and that is the only thing I did not like about it. But you have to remember that these books came out in the seventies and unfortunately most of the books back then did the same thing. 1/2 to 3/4 of the book is "leading up" then the last part of the book just blows your mind. All in all it was definitely worth the read and I would still recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good book.

On another note I did see the original movie, the remake and the sequel. The original is by far the best movie the remake did have some better "lead up" points to keep you interested. I did not like the sequel that much and in fact could not even finish watching it. They could have done a much better job in making this movie.

You do have a point, emsman. You'd figure the drug craze of the 70's would leave the literature a bit more roller-coastery. xD But strangely, this is not the case.
