I'm still pretty new to the drumset. (and working on the snare atm, too...)(Mostly because when we were just learning percussion, the other percussionists were too lazy to learn how to play bells, etc., and read notes. As well as tune a timpani. (and don't forget all the little toys)
Since we got a new BD this year, he made me play drumset for a song a concert, and I can say I didn' do that well. -___-
Do any of you have any tips, books, advice, pointers, etc. That I could use to get a bit better at the drumset? I really want to learn how to play the drumset, and play it well...so erm..yeah. =o
Please? It'd be much appreciated...

well like the guy above me said, pratice. but there is also a few more things you can do. i have been playing set for 7 years now. i'm still nothing special at it. but i can try my best to help. i started out with lessons. idk if you can find anyone around you. you can try calling the music stores, they normally have someone there that can teach you and give you lessons. i also bought a begners book. it came with a cd. the good thing about learning from a book, is it helps you learn how to read drum set music. but its bad to learn Just from a book. because that is pretty much what i did. now i can ready really hard and complex music, but suck at playing on the fly or making stuff up. and that is what i have been trying to work on myself. but alternat reading set music and playing by ear. and always play with a metronome. it helps, no matter how irritaing it is. it is a good thing to pick up. i hope this helps you out alittle. and you can always pm me if you want biggrin good luck on the set!

I know when I started out, I always freaked out about having to play the bass part with my foot. But, then I learned that it's basically just quarter notes, and that as long as you keep your foot moving, they're really nothing to worry about.
