Sachino-sama, your logic with kikyo is good, except that I don't think zombies have souls. Anyway she can only feed on the souls of tragic maidens, and from my experiences most zombie killings happen to allegedly slutty girls or panicking idiots.

She does have the advantage of not being just inedible, but undead herself. She could probably take out most of the zombies just by walking up to them and ripping their heads off. They obviously don't recognize other undead as threats/prey, otherwise they would tear the other zombies apart, and they clearly lack any self-preservation skills.

Kikyo is the best equipped. She doesn't eat, doesn't drink, doesn't sleep, and isn't potential prey.

I'm pretty sure viral zombies have souls of some sort. Plus "tragic madiens" is subjective, if it's a mass breakout then wouldn't all girl who die be considered "tragic maidens." Anyway the tragic maiden is a product of english translation, beacuse I've also read it as miserable women.

Well, I think a soul requires both life and intellect. Viral zombies are mindless, and most variations are still medically dead, so that seems to indicate a lack of a soul.

Well technically the concept of the soul is the same as the mind, which is construct formed from cognitive processes. It also came about beacuse it facilitated survival. Zombies are driven by their urge to survive, which means that somewhere they must have mind that's perceiving and processing outside information. Hypothetically the virus destroys all social, emotional, centers of the brain which leaves them with nothing to control urges to eat and kill. Some form of cognition is needed to processes outside stimuli, so yes in a sense zombies do have minds.

Plus, I was thinking I am Legend, they formed started forming a society... and sent one of their own to kill the guy.

Don't you remember though? The creatures in "I Am Legend" were "Dark Seekers", not zombies.

I don't think so. Cogition is not needed for survival. Animals eat, but contemporary definitions do not consider them to have souls. Starfish move and eat and they don't actually have brains. Amoebas also move and eat and are single-celled organisms. Computers can process outside information if you hook them up to a webcam, but you wouldn't say a computer has a soul.

There is an important philosophical distinction between "soul", and "mind". The soul is more linked with the heart, the portion of god, the intuition, the inner light. It is an intangeable quality that makes us human, rather than just slavering beasts or lumps of protein animated by neural impulses.

Zombies are, by defintion, soulless.

Aside from the soul discussion, in my opinion, most of the characters would survive. They all have equipment of some sort to survive and if they don't, it's most likely not going to be because of the zombies directly.

Inuyasha has tetseiga and knowledge on survival.

Sesshomaru is a daiyoukai.

Sango is properly equipped with hiraikotsu and survivsl knowledge.

Miroku's pretty smart and he's got his wind tunnel.

Kikyo is undead.

Naraku is a compilation of demons and could if he wanted to either barrcate himself somewhere or just absorb the zombies. Chances are though, that he'll just send his reincarnations out to kill the zombies.

Kagome and Shippo have Inuyasha! 4laugh

All other characters have good weapons/attacks and survival instincts or any other reasons previously listed...

Shippo would survive because he can transform into a rock or tree and no zombie would recognize him as food. The others would all be exhausted from always fighting and/or running from the swarms of zombies, plus one bite from the zombie would infect them. The adults would die off quickly. Shippo could sneak around and hide.

This brings up the issue of the nature of the zombie virus in a fantastic world. Can it infect magical creatures, IE demons? Can spiritual purification do anything against it? Miroku usually has to limit his wind tunnel use if he sucks up something that's poisonous, like demonic miasma or demon wasps. Does the virus of a zombie count as "poison" for this purpose?

Also, how virulent is the zombie contagion? Would inuyasha's half-demon status prevent it, or at least slow it's spread long enough to amputate or otherwise cleanse the infected area?
