Aww there not that loud once your use to them. If its a fast song with eight notes then your hearing gets impaired for a second or two but their not that bad.

I know your pain. Try having to sit by the drum line and cymbols at a school where our boys [and two girls] like to play to the point where they almost break their instruments. Not to mention we're immediately followed by the flutes. Loud, crashing noises to the front, high pitched chirping behind... Ugh, it makes stand cheers unpleasant.

NO WAY!!! the loudness is the best part i play cymbals
the loudness is the best because it means everyone can hear you
and it's put in the music for emphasis IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LOUD
and if you can't stand the noise ask the director about moving your seat
or smaller cymbals

if they are played properly they shouldn't be that bad. I play percussion and I love playing the crash cymbals. I suppose one on each side would be a little much

Eesh...
Well, not as harsh as being stuck IN THE BAND ROOM for several hours with the drumline while working on the drum feature... I swear, it's no wonder our percussion instructor wears earplugs...

Marching Snares are worse than cymbals in my opinion...but I wear ear-plugs to help. You should too!
