I got confused on the topic too. It's really stupid to change a manga/ anime character's gender. I don't even get why you'd change it. It just creates confusion and a lot of ppl becoming deaf from angry ppl yelling about it.

there are many things from the manga/anime that was changed in the move,including rems gender.....they just changed it so that the story will be a bit different....and a bit interesting to watch....♥♥♥

does it matter Rem is a shinigami I doubt u will se him together with ryuk or any other shinigami...
and if shinigami have sex(which I don't think they can)I doubt they give birth to shinigami hidious babies
