To get that glassy smooth clean tone, you have to do a couple of things:
Use the neck pickup. It's clean and way smoother than your bridge pickup. Having a single coil will help here too.
Use a 2 by 12 amp or bigger to give you the bottom end you need.
Dial your bass up and your treble to match it and pull your middle out until you get the sound you want.
Right now, running through my Peavey XXL 212 I can get a pretty mean clean tone (3 or 4 to be exact) and that's all I do.

I tried this useing both my jackson and Strat and got the tone I was looking for. I also slaped a chorus effect on it to add to it. I am useing a Yamaha hundred 212 amp. Its not bad but I think I'll sell it (treble seems to be a 11 no matter what I do) and track down a nice Fender head to replace it with.

Suposedly my Yamaha is sought after but I can't see any reason why. Unless I play in a very wide room or out doors this thing sounds like s**t. It makes itself shake on 3. Ineed to fix the reverb on it as well as replace the pots but if I can get it working nicely then Hell yes on the Fender. 3nodding
