The Muffin With A Heart

That is the official name of my soon-to-be book.

I've been writing this for quite a while now, and STILL haven't come up with a name for it, so it's called Something. I'm not overly-enthusiastic about it really, mainly because it just happens to be something to feed my writing hunger, so as much as I'm keen to get feedback, constructive critisicm and helpful suggestions, it's not something I'm going to take to every publisher in the land as soon as it's finished.

Point being, don't worry about harsh comments, or reversely, yes-men comments, as I like to call them. They're not going to tip any balances. It's something I like to do, and I'd like to know how good I am at it. =3

The little bit I'm going to post is the prose intended for the beginning. I wrote it about a year ago, and I haven't read it myself for quite a while, so I'd love some notes back, and if anyone's interested I'll post a bit more.

Thankyou!

P.s. I'd just like to point out that the rest of the writing isn't as, for the want of a better phrase, "apocalyptically dramatic" as this little extract... It's to get you in the mood =D

Grey veins of splintered evening smog snaked through the trash infested streets. Clouds of coral and violet slowly flowed across the murky night sky, jaded from the light pollution of the city, giving everything a thoroughly poisoned look. The slow, doleful hooting of a weary owl was the only sound echoing over the old abandoned buildings that stood so prominently over the lonely string of lampposts dotting the curbs. The street was deserted. Not a being moved; for one moment in eternity the entire world was still, it was quiet, and it was at peace.
And all at once, the silence was broken by the sound of approaching kitten-heels. As the tapping of cheap plastic upon tarmac became ever louder, a strange wind rushed down the street and unsettled a pile of dead leaves. They swayed and waltzed in the air, as graceful as a group of swans, swaying and slipping and finally coming to rest upon an old newspaper. A moment later the foot of a young girl kicked them disdainfully up again. Glaring straight ahead of her, she marched her way down the shadowed street, her black chiffon dress swirling around her in the gale, and her raven hair whipping up around her tear-stained face, the tips radiating gold in the haze of the streetlamps, fashioning a makeshift moonlight halo.
When she reached the middle of the street she stopped short and stood perfectly still. Her hands were clasped desperately above her beating heart; her breath melted the thick air into a fine mist in front of her and her deep, haunting eyes were despairingly searching the skies. As she stood there, a huge burst of faint voices surged through the night from behind her. She didn’t move or speak a word; she stood still and gazed into the heavens. Soon, a shattering cascade of footsteps grew louder and louder as the girl stared deep into the tainted black sky that hung over her. Just as a vast lump of shadowy figures raced towards her, she breathed out a long, heartbroken sigh that shivered in the gloom, and a single twinkling tear silently slipped down her cheek.
“Charlie…”
