Lily Robinson... "Lady Deathe"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
W.I.P.

Besides... "Lady Deathe" will surely sell more tickets than "Lily Robinson, girl with skeleton arms and a temper."
NOTE:: Lily pictured above is somewhere between her second and third stages... starter Lily is much more mousy and less regal.

PART I. PHYSICAL

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Full name:: Lily Anne Robinson

Date of Birth/Age:: October 11, 24 years ago.

Address:: 4952 West Dennings Drive, Ori City, Ansbach (B-type world) -*more on this in post 5*-

Race/Ethnic Background/Nationality:: Caucasian, Scandinavian (similar)

Height:: 5'7"

Weight/Body Build:: Thin but strong, flatish chested, lanky in places… not anorexic.

Hair:: Long red hair, slightly curly at the ends. Something that gives her endless irritation. She finds her hair unruly, and hard to style. It seems that if she wants straight hair then it's always slightly curly, and if she want's curly hair then the curls stay in for all of about ten mintues. It's a grass is always greener on the other side kind of thing. A lot of people would kill for naturally red hair... Lily just wants to be non-descript. There was actually a time when she was about 13 that she dyed her hair black without asking her mother... and it turned out to be a bad decision since it did NOT look good on her complexion and she just looked mostly dead

Eyes:: Blue

Peculiar Physical Traits:: She has skeletal arms… literally, no flesh or muscle on them... something that perpetuated her getting made fun of at school. It took her a long time to realize that the other children were really just scared of her. But by then the issues with her personality and self confidence were well dented...

Distinguishing Marks:: Prominent freckles all over her face and body. This is also another thing that irritates her. She once asked her borther, 'why must I be a spotty skeletal freak?'... of course her brother replied, 'because you were born a spotty skeletal freak, the same way I was born a lanky acne pocked smart a**.' ... ... The lower half of her arms is nothing but skeleton with enough ligament to make her fingers move. She broke her right arm as a child and tore a ligament at the time, so there's a spot where the ligament healed badly and is kind of lumpy... but you have to look really closely for that.

Health:: physically very healthy... mentally she's a slight case, since she's been teased all her life, but if no-one's making fun of her then she's not planning to shoot them in the head or anything. The gril has and has always had a VERY short fuse. That's part of the reason that the other kids were so afraid of her... she would go from shy and quiet to raging ball of insanity in about three seconds flat.

Senses:: Good eyesight, and good hearing… she has no sensitivity in her arms until things start touching her up near her elbows. Then the nerves start to kick in and she can partially feel things. She used to do things to irritate her mother (if she still lived with her mother then she probably still would), and one of those things was to light paper on fire and hold it in her hand... then she'd show her mother, just to creep the poor woman out.

Voice:: Average, when she uses it. Which usually is only in her own self deffense. The loudest she's ever been was when she gave a great battle cry and leapt off the back of the bleachers onto Michelle Green (fellow classmate at the time) when Michelle felt the need to comment on a rip in Lily's gym uniform.

Mannerisms:: She’s normally quite quiet and shy, and she has a peculiar habit of chewing on her finger bones. It’s a strange habit that she picked up watching her older brother chew on his fingernails. It drives her mother insane to see her doing it... so of course she did it often. Often enough to put small dents in her fingerbones over the years.

Clothes/shoes/accessories:: All her life she’s worn baggy sweatshirts with hoods and long jeans (usually passed down or stolen from her older brother). Mostly she was trying to hide the fact that she had strange arms. Now that she’s joined the circus, she’ll still hang onto her jeans , but she’ll probably be more inclined to wear T-shirts and such at first. She has one necklace that she wears all the time and that’s a pink and cream cameo (typical Victorian kind). As soon as she’s a proper performer, she’ll probably take on a costume that embraces her “Lady Deathe” title… Cape and heavy eye make-up and such. It'll all be a grand part of her being able to 'find herself'.

Eating habits/mannerisms/tastes:: She’s a very picky eater. She doesn’t like anything with heavy preservatives, and she tries to stay away from eating animals, but she’s not a vegetarian. She doesn’t like anything that’s been dried or pickled, and she won’t drink hot drinks. She’s also totally Tee-total, because she’s always been scared that she’d be out of control if she was drunk... that she'd show off her arms to someone who didn’t really need to see them, or hurt herself or someone else... that and she never really had all that many friends.

PART II. GENERAL

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Occupation/Social Class:: Her parents were regular working class joes, and she never considered herself any better than anyone else. In fact, quite the opposite…

Views on Money/Spending Habits:: Money can buy you happiness… at least she feels that way now. And what better way to get money than to cash in on her ‘deformity’?

Education/Intelligence:: Very average intelligence. She’s no dummy, but she doesn’t do long division in her head or anything. In fact, she doesn’t even spell very well. When she was 10 she was the first one to spell something wrong in the school spelling bee… the word was tyrannical… I think the teacher had it in for her.

Marital Status:: Single... And she’s convinced that this will never change. Nobody she’s ever met has considered her sexy… there was this one guy, who it turns out had really kinky fetishes. O.o I would go into the details further, but the truth is that… well… you really don’t want to know.

Political Party/Views:: She’s way too concerned with staying invisible to have political opinions, although she does like a good argument now and then… it really gets the blood flowing and makes her feel better when she’s taking her frustrations out on other people.

Beliefs/Strength of Beliefs:: Innocent until proven guilty… and people suck (usually)

What is his/her usual disposition?:: Quiet at times, flippant at times... If someone goes out of their way to make fun of her, she’s not apt to kill them, but there’s not much to stop her from leaping off the back of a bleacher onto them… just cause they triggered the ‘crazy’.

Optimist/Pessimist? :: Neutral… more of the ‘who cares’ mind variety.

Confident/Self-conscious? :: Oh-my-goodness-self-conscious.

How does he/she feel about his/her appearance? :: She hates the way she looks. She hates her hair, she hates her freckles, she HATES HER ARMS… and her mother was always telling her that she was too thin, and that she needed to eat more… so she thinks she’s too scrawny.

Most important possession:: Her cameo necklace. It was given to her by her older brother after he found it at a garage sale for a dollar. She wears it every day…. Except that week after she fell out of the tree and it caught in the branches. She broke one of her arms then, so it took her two days to notice that the necklace was missing. Her brother found it and went up the tree after it… of course he fell out of the tree while doing it and of course, broke his arm as well. … … that was a fun month for Lily.

Talents :: She can take hot things out of the oven without gloves, and she can plunge her arms into fire and not feel a thing. She also can play a mean table top drum roll (good hollow knocking sound). She and her brother used to bang pots a lot as kids, just because the sound of arm bones hitting t-fall pans is really a great sound.

What is a normal day like for this character?:: She wakes up and takes a shower, gets dressed, and goes to work. She works at a call in center where she helps people to find out what’s wrong with their television sets. She hates it there because usually she’s got to talk the people into believing that it’s all their fault, when all she really wants to do is smack her manager and tell the customer that the tv company sucks as a whole… but she can’t do that or she’ll get fired. Then she goes home, pets her goofy cat who really doesn’t like being petted, watches Tv on her complimentary crappy work provided television, and goes to bed…. Unless it’s Thursday. If it’s Thursday, then her Brother picks her up at the local coffee shop and they go bowling together. She hates bowling, but loves spending time with her brother.

Greatest Fear:: She’ll never feel at home… and she’ll never like who she is.

Major Goals::
1. To find ‘home’
2. To find someone who loves her and isn’t related to her.
3. To learn to like herself.

PART III. RELATIONSHIPS

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Significant Other/Relationship:: She’s never had one. She had a boyfriend when she was 15 for all of about twenty minutes until he tried to hold her hand… you can figure out the rest of the story. Oh yeah… and that fettish guy that I mentioned earlier… O.o … but I’m still not telling you all about him.

Who does he/she live with?:: She grew up in a normal house with her mother, father and older brother. But now that she’s out of high school (and dropped out of college after three weeks of a biology degree) She lives alone in a VERY small apartment with her goofy/stupid cat named Morty.

Who does he/she spend the most time with?:: Herself… but she looks at her cat across the room every night, she has dinner and goes bowling with her brother every Thursday night, and at work she sits in a cubicle that’s adjacent to the cubicle of a man named Harold Fussey (who she never talks to because he pops his gum)

Father/Relationship with him/Occupation:: Her father was a construction worker as she was growing up. She never really talked to him all that much, but she did get the ever-popular ‘make me proud kiddo’ speech a lot. She got the feeling that her father really didn’t know what to do with her, and so she’d tell him things that she thought he wanted to hear, and never really got to know him as a person.

Mother/Relationship with her/Occupation :: She always got along with her mother, because like her father she made an effort to do what she thought her mother wanted. However, unlike her father, she got the feeling that her mother was creeped out by her… so of course she would do things that she knew would make her mother uneasy. Her mother was a librarian at the local elementary school. When she was little and she went to that school, she had the same temper/fuse that she has now. So every time she got in trouble she got marched down to the principal’s office, and then marched down to her mother’s office. She never really saw a good side to having her mother work at her school until one day she had forgotten to get her field trip permission slip signed. The teacher let her run down to the library and get another one signed at the very last minute. To this day she still remembers the time that she almost didn’t get to go with her class to the abandoned mine two towns over… and to this day she wishes she hadn’t. She can still feel the bat tangled in her hair when she thinks about that day.

Siblings/Relationships:: Her older brother Sam. He was a really really great guy when they were growing up. He was the one person in the whole world who really loved/liked her and didn’t seem creeped out or scared by her. She loves him unconditionally, would do anything for him…. And will be really sad if he dies. ninja

Best Friend::Probably her brother… though she knows deep down in her heart that he already has best friends of his own, and she’s not one of them. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love her or enjoy spending time with her… it just means that she’s his kid sister… not his drinking buddy.
Other Important Friends:: None. Even her stupid cat (Morty) doesn’t like her very much.

Feelings toward animals:: She doesn’t get along with animals… they just don’t seem to like her. During the three weeks that she was trying to get a biology degree, one of her classes took her on a trip to the Zoo. I do believe that that day’s journal entry is titled ‘How you feel when you ride on a bus for three hours, get pee’d on by a bear, and get kicked out of the monkey house due to chimps trying to pelt you with poo through a window.’ It’s an interesting read… I’ll have to print you off a copy some time. My favourite part is the choice words the window cleaner of the monkey house had for Lily that day.

How does he/she view their family?:: She loves her brother and avoids her parents.

How does he/she view their friends?:: She dislikes Morty, and sees her brother every Thursday. On a side note, even her imaginary friend (Gary) stopped playing with her after she called him a ‘trail of slimey snail slime’ – she wasn’t a very creative child. Even when it came to making up insults. I do believe that her battle cry, as she leapt off the bleachers onto Michelle that one day, was something as cliché as ‘you take that back!’

How does their family view them?:: Despite their own personal reservations, every member of her family loved her very much… in their own ways.

How do their friends view them?:: Her brother loves her and thinks that she needs to get a life, live better, take better care of herself… and most of all, learn to love who she is.

Who is their hero?:: Her brother … and Captain Kangaroo… he was pretty cool too. Oh, and She-ra… even though she fought Skelletor all the time. She-ra was so cool that Lily could overlook the fact that she had an obvious hatred for skeletons.

PART IV. HOMEWORLD

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lily comes from a B-type world, VERY much like Earth. There are a few differences, the biggest one being that her planet is far more advanced in sciences that don't have to do with biology. They can travel long distances quicker, and they've developed and almost instant transport system for things that aren't alive. People get their post much sooner on Ansbach. They've also made great leaps and bounds when it comes to eliminating disease and deformity, but that's more due to good breeding and a sense of duty to common sense than anything scientifical. That's part of the reason Lily's been through so much ridicule all through her life... people on Ansbach just don't see that many differences in characters.

The planet has nine continents... and Lily grew up on the second most powerful one. The climate there is much like the climate in Maine Usa (four seasons, very hot in the summer, very cold in the winter). Her house was a normal three bedroom shared with her parents and her brother. She had the smaller of the two kids' rooms, but that didnt' bother her much since she was the younger one.

The school systems were much the same as ours, only perhaps a little stricter when it came to learning curves and ciriculums. She had one year of 'Kindergarten' 5 years of elementary school, and then 7 years of various high school classes. much like an American system, only shorter. She graduated pretty much the bottom of her class... but that was mostly becasue she couldn't be bothered studying. I'm sure if she'd actually have done her homework then she'd have made it at least into the top third.

The college systems there are even more strict since they like to keep intelligence as prominent as possible on the planet. There are many levels of colleges (just like here) which cater to different degrees and professions.

The work force is the same... gruling, mind numbing, makes people wish they'd have tortured themselves for that college degree instead of dropping out of jsut because Mrs' Faybear said they'd never make anything of themselves and why were they even trying.... someday they'd show Mrs' Faybear.... someday.

The biggest difference (perhaps) is the matter of marriage and such... marriage on Ansbach is a contractual event, rather than a lifelong promise. Every two years couples are expected to review their contracts of 'marriage' with each other and decide if it's something that both of them want to continue in. It's not uncommon for people to join in many different marriage contracts. Lily's mother was in three contracts prior to having met Lily's father, and Lily's father had already had four contracts. However after having met each other, the two of them 'renewed' very faithfully every two years. Because the contract requires people to discuss and talk about the union, some marriages become stronger and last longer... Some, on the other hand, get nit-picked to death in a constant search for something better.

Why?
Why does a 24 year old from Ansbach join the circus?

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.She's never felt at home, she's never felt like she could be happy with herself and the way she looked. The only person who she really felt at home around was her brother...

He once told her that she should "Never be afraid to be who she was." And she tried very hard to believe him. She and he spent their childhoods together until he moved out and went to college. They were two years apart (him older). So two years later she moved out too. Then then saw each other and did ridiculous things (such as bowling) every Thrusday night. ... ... ... Until just after Lily's 24th birthday...

Sam Andrew Robinson was killed by a young woman after he decided not to renew his 'marriage' conract with her (as was his right by their planitary custom and judicial system) ....

Lily decided that there was nothing keeping her in life anymore and after a suitable time of depression and not being able to handle her emotions, she 'ran away and joined the circus.' . To this day she's not sure why she did it... something in the back of her head shouting freak at her... something in the front of her head saying 'of course you're a freak...' ... her brother's voice .... her brother's voice repeating 'never be afraid to be who you are...' ....

I'm a freak.

Welcome to the sideshow.

How?
What does a Side show do?

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lily really has no talents other than the fact that she has skeletal arms. I mean, she has no feeling in her hands from the elbow down so she can do stupid things like plunge her hands into fire and then bring them out again, no pain, no searing... or take hot things out of ovens without mits... juggle knives blade first (if she could juggle that is... but she can't) ... She can certainly play a mean drum solo on a wooden table though. One of her favourite parts in life was whenever someone would go 'drumroll please' for any reason. There was just something wonderful about the sound of fingerbones on a wooden table... metal pots made good sounds too.

Lady Deathe?

As Lily was growing up the other kids all would call her 'death child'. It wasn't true *at least not that she observed* but it was rumoured that all she had to do was touch you with her 'death' arms and you'd soon get sick as a dog and die. Needless to say, none of the other kids would let her touch them after that. Sometimes Lily found herself wishing that she really did have 'death arms' so that she could inflict disease and death on the other children who made fun of her... but that was a bad side of her that she really didn't like all that much. She now takes the name "Lady Deathe" as a sort of punctuation to her childhood... a sort of grasp at trying to like who she really is. Not neccissarily the messenger of disease and death, but a woman who has skeletal arms....

....

Besides... "Lady Deathe" will surely sell more tickets than "Lily Robinson, girl with skeleton arms and a temper."
PostPosted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 6:26 am

I thought I wasn't going to have to do any critique on this because the first three parts are so strong, but there are some odd things about the last two posts.

Reasons for leaving: These seem really sudden. I mean, sure, they're perfectly valid, but they come out of nowhere. If her brother was like, the most important person in the world to her, I'd think there'd be a little more detail, things happening, etc, between him getting killed and her running away to join the circus. Her decision seems really sudden and I think it would feel more natural if there was a little more soul searching and detail in the last paragraph.

Talent: Can't be burned, can't be harmed. Well, that's all fine and dandy, BUT YOU HAVEN'T TOLD US WHAT SHE DOES IN THE FREAK SHOW! xp You've sort of hinted at her getting all gussied up in victorian costume, but that tells us absolutely nothing about what she's actually going to do. Okay, a woman in a pretty dress with skeleton arms. That's fun and exciting for all of thirty seconds, but why are they paying her the big bucks? I guess what I'm complaining about here is that as great a character as she is, you have no concept of her actual act. Could you work on that?

Overall, great concept! Congrats on winning the auction.
