I think it's the same as here, the age I mean. But the difference is that over there they go the whole year. From April to March, I believe. Usually ones starts kinder at 4 or 5, not real sure in Japan though, I know that in Mexico you can do up to three years of Kinder, from 3-5 and then you start first grade...not real sure in Japan though.

I believe it is pretty similar, except one big difference is that high school is 3 years, starting at 10th grade. Middle school is also three years, but it doesn't include 6th grade, but rather is 7th through 9th grade.
Unlike in America, they don't refer to it as being 8th grade or 9th grade or whatever, but you say which year of that particular level of school you are. So an 8th grader would refer to his or herself as being a second-year middle schooler.

Mikoto_Sohma I see..but I'm not american.. I believe your system is at 5 yrs old is kinder, six years of gradeschool, 3 yrs of middleschool..or whas it junior high? and then four years of high school and four years of college Here's the American one - Elementary/Grade school: Kindergarten Grades 1 - 5 (sometimes 6) (Many Catholic schools bypass middle school and do elementary up through 8th grade) Middle School/Junior High (same thing): Grades 6 - 8 or 7 - 8 (Depends on the school, though I think 6th grade is mostly becoming part of middle school) High school: Grades 9 - 12 And yeah, college is typically four years, but super seniors (5+ years) are abundant. I'm not sure the college system for Japanese students, except I believe they usually have to write a senior thesis during their final year. I also know that it's pretty common for students to slack off in college compared to students in other countries since up until then their study has mostly been for entrance exams, which they don't need to worry about after they get into college.

Let me get this straight-- In Japan it's:
Kinder. @ age 5 Elementary (Grades 1-6) Junior High (Grades 7-9) - years 1-3 High School (Grades 10-12) - ditto College/University/Trade School - 1-4 years
Right???

Kinda confusing... I know some countries have this kind of system but this one racks my head...
It also seems that the Philippines use a similar simpler system.
