Kenth felt his face flush for the first time in...decades, it seemed. He could feel something snap in his brain, like a wild monster out of its cage, yarning to tear the worlds apart. His breathing became hard and loud, and in midst of the cold weather Kenth was almost fuming visibly, like a little boy whose favorite toy just got snatched away. He felt something was at a loss. Alex's words not only broke his restraint, it hurt him in a way that he never knew as possible. And what was worse was there a feeling of defeat, of not able to repute the woman's words, of not having anything logical to say at all. In short, Kenth was mad beyond even himself. For the moment he was no longer a fine and accomplished doctor, but a younger, arrogant boy who was insulted of his reasoning, of his being as a whole.
The doctor stood up abruptly without caring about the woman on his shoulder with such a force that would surely have knocked Alex down if she was not prepared. He breathed hard, and for several seconds, the world was silent and the only sound was his hard, frustrated breathes. And when the waiting was finally over Kenth turned and stared down at Alex with a look as if he was staring at his most hated enemy. His eyes glared daggers, trying to pierce through Alex.
"On the principle of which I have set myself several years ago I cannot, I CANNOT face him. I, as an individual, reserve the right to not give you a legitimate reason as for why this has to be. Now you, YOU, Alexis Falcone, shall respect this right. I do not take no as an answer in this case, and do not inquire further on this matter if you pity your own life."
Kenth hissed his unusually formal words. He did not bother to wipe the anger off of him, and he wasn't about to give Alex time to respond. In a swift motion he snatched the woman's arm and pulled her close to him so that her face was directly and fully in his eyes' view. His grip was hard and cold, steady and clenching as if he wanted to break off the woman's wrist. For a moment he had a murderous thought, and it suddenly scared him. He had never thought that the thinking would re-surface after what he did to his own brother. Was that not part of the reason that he became a doctor in the first place, to cleanse himself from the thought of a jealous killer? This time, however, it was not jealousy that invoked the thought. It was something far more complicated, something Kenth cannot explain...
And as suddenly as it had came, Kenth's grip loosened as the doctor darted away from the woman, and walked off...or rather, fled, the scene, not turning back as the dark skinned woman was left alone to react to what had just happened.

The man, in his anger, had in fact knocked her over. Despite her thoughts that he would pull away, she did not think he would move so quickly and sharply, looking up at him with mild shock. Alex listened as he ranted and raved, standing slowly all the while, taking a moment to brush the grass off of her white (and ruined) over shirt. His last comment caused the hair on the back of her neck to raise, and not in a good way.
She bristled, but didn't have time to say anything, finding herself suddenly mere inches from his face. Her green eyes were wide, looking into his for an answer, an explanation for why he had expoded...and then he was running. Running from her, from the question...himself. She saw him clearly in her mind, as though she were back in China, walking off in self-righteous anger, which she swore she would not allow him to do again...
"Kenth Larine!" she practically roared, springing after him like a runner off a starting line, catching up to him easily. She grabbed his arm, spinning on the grass due to her speed, using the momentum to stop herself right in front of him. He wanted confrontation? Fine. He was about to get a face full. "I do not pity life, but I do pity those who would underestimate its value," she growled, practically standing on her toes, as close to his face as he had been to hers. "And how DARE you imply I would not respect you or your decision! I have always respected you, I respect you even now as you turn your back on me, and I will always respect you. I respect you enough that I will never ask you about it again. EVER. That's all you had to say! I didn't know any better, how could I?"
She took a breath, continuing on before he could strike at her. "You're running from the wrong person. I will never intentionally hurt you. Even if you turn your back on me, I'm still going to bring you dinner and I'm still going to be in your face if I feel you're wrong. If you don't like it, then tell me to go the hell away and you'll never see me again. I will do that, because I..." Alex seemed to choke a little, finishing, "I respect you, okay?"

Kenth had not expected that the woman would catch up to him, not to mention that she would yell at him. He stared at Alex, mouth slightly opening due to partial shock both at his own action and Alex's words. In his throat came a noise that sounded like a deep grunt. The sound wasn't human, more like a mad dog who was about to strike. But the doctor ceased this noise when Alex continued on. Then the noise from his throat sounded like a whimper.
He had not realized how he had became dependent on the woman's frequent visit, despite how much he disliked it. He remembered the one month during which Alex was gone, and how distracted he was. There was no use in lying about it to himself, for Kenth know, despite how much he tried to convience his mind not to agree, that Alex had successfully infiltrated part of his life and was now, like coffine, something hard to get rid of. And the woman was not about to give up easily either! Was she more like a virus in this case?
Kenth stared until the dark skinned woman finished her yelling, and sighed. He should have seen this coming, knowing Alex from previous happenings, that she was stubborn as a bull and passionate like his own brother. Should she also suffer the same fate as his brother, to be hurt, and possibly killed, by his own hands? Kenth shuddered visibly at the thought. He had become a threat to this woman's life unconsciously, and he was afraid. He didn't want to keep running away from those who respected him or loved him, but...
"If you respect me, " Kenth breathed heavily, "then stand aside and let me pass."
Because he cared for her life.
But that was the way he was, and to him, it was the only solution.

Alex uttered a deep sigh, lowering her eyes but not backing down, ending up staring at his mouth for a moment. She pursed her own lips, thinking, trying to piece together the fragments of their conversation that had somehow gotten wildly out of hand. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make sense of the mess that they had both created.
Finally, she turned her eyes back to his cool blue ones. "I respect you, Doctor Larine, but I am not your dog. I have fought for you and come closer to death in my time with you than I have in my whole life...more than once, even, saved only by your grace. Understand that the only fear I carry is of losing those I love, through my own doing." She leaned further towards him, pressing a brief and sweet kiss to his cheek before she lowered herself back onto her feet, still not moving away from him. "That being said...I hope you will respect me enough to walk around, because I will not move. It's not right, and I can't let you go without a fight. Because I respect you."
She lifted her chin, expression dark. Her eyes were still as wild and vivid a green as ever, but they would not move from his. Smiling lips were drawn into a very non-smiling line, but the expression as a whole spoke of weariness more than anger or refusal. Alex knew he would move around her...or perhaps even push her out of the way, but she wasn't going to yield to his tantrum. She would do as he said when he acted like a man, and if it took a little brutality, well...she could take it as well as she could dish it out. What would she do when he left her standing there, she wondered?
Probably take it out on anything that got in her way.

Kenth knew what Alex was talking about. He knew the woman, he knew what she had been through as it was simple and clear from her actions. Yet, he could not sympathize. He had forgotten how to sympathize with others a long time ago. The world consisted of him, and himself only. But in this case he was surprised, almost appalled to learn that he had cared about her wellbeing just a short moment ago, and Alex's refusal to be cared cause his blood run colder than it already was.
Should he tell her that she could be killed if she was to be stubborn like this? The woman would probably not listen to him, she never did, and she could never be tamed.
Disappointingly Kenth found himself having nothing to say. Nothing, at least, useful in this situation. The doctor stood for a few moments, and silently turned and walked around Alex as if she was a great rock, standing firmly and rooting herself into the ground. He walked more slowly this time, without turning again. And unlike the last flight he now had something to ponder about, something he could have asked if he had stayed...
He wondered what he should do to make the woman less stubborn for her own sake.
