Sasori was Deidara's partner before Tobi.

Sasori is a missing nin from the Suna he is a puppet master, and he was formally know as Deidara's partner, but will remain in most of our hearts forever. heart heart heart

Yeah, what they said.... Sasori came from Sunagakure(the same village Gaara and his bro and sis are from). He got all manic depressive when his parents died on some mission when he was a little kid. His grandmother, Chiyo-baasan, raised him, and taught him everything she knew about using puppets in battle, which was what their family did. She was a master at it.... but eventually he became a hell of a lot better. Anyways, he started making his own puppets, but eventually decided to turn himself into a puppet, and to leave the village and become a missing-nin. It isn't clear whether he left or turned himself into a puppet first. But when he left, he killed the 3rd Kazekage and turned him into a puppet too, lol. He eventually joined Akatsuki, wayyyy before Deidara did, and had Orochimaru as his first partner. Orochimaru got scared shitless of Itachi and left, and so the Leader ordered Itachi, Kisame, and Sasori on a mission to go recruit Deidara. Deidara said no at first, but was kinda forced into joining after a fight with Itachi...read the manga for more on this. So then Sasori and Deidara were partners. They fought all the time- well, I should actually say argued, not fought- over things like the meaning of true art, and how Deidara would take a long time to do things. Sasori would get really impatient.. like an old man, lol. He thought art was long-lasting, not fleeting like Dei does too... Anyway, after they captured Gaara and removed his demon, therefore killing him, Naruto and Sakura and the rest of the crew showed up. Sakura and Sasori's grandmother fought him, he let himself get killed, long story short. But you really need to see it in more detail, start with manga chapter 255.
