One step...two steps...three steps...it seemed that with each step he took a piece of his life vanished. Though that didn't stop the blind Aeri from stopping. He knew it was meaningless to stop moving. Whether or not he wanted to stop time from moving on, he knew that his life would continue to count down, like a giant timer ready to expire. Sooner or later he would give up and lay down to give up the rest of his time left on this world. But today wasn't his day to do so. There was something he wanted to do-something he had been dreading to do for a while. Ever since his sister abandoned him and his brother betrayed him Gwydion's life had been meaningless. But now there was something for him to grasp hold of his life and finally realize that it might be worth while to stick around for another year or so.

Sighting of his sister had caught his ears and he wanted to see if the rumors were true. That had been three months ago. Now, in the dead of winter, Gwydion had traveled from the snow-covered D'ob and he traveled to the far reaches of the Fyhi tel Oren, a place forbidden to those who weren't of the Jala blood-line. Of course, being Aeri, Gwydion wasn't going to be very welcomed in this blaspherious place.

Stopping in his tracks, he lifted his sightly gaze from the ground he had been 'staring' and he gazed around sightlessly, his ears pricked up as high as he could get them. Something had caught his attention. Something big. "Bothersome," he muttered under his breath, shifting his hooves slightly. "Terribly bothersome." Shaking his mane, whatever was left of it, to the other side of his neck, he pawed nervously at the ground, hoping that no one had spotted him yet.

Zara didn't like those who dwelled. She didn't like the past, she didn't like thinking about the past, or family, or well, anything. Except of course, if it involved her and what she'd do to gain everything. Obsessed with power, yetting hating those in power, she was a person of mixed virtues and deepening insanity. Smiles often graced her features, but her tongue was sharp as the silver knives of two-legged folklore.

Hence, the moment she saw Gwydion there was an instant dislike. On top of that he was an Aeri, and though in her heart she felt no despise for any race but the Reya, her raising had slid an automatic response into her eyes, tongue, and mouth. Feelings of distaste grew even greater for one covered in bones - a sick an twisted idea it was. No wonder the Katilenuck hated these bastards. Blasphemous indeed.

May Jala live long and shine.

"Bothersome?" she said with a face that bridged the line between boredom and apathy. "Whatever could you mean?"

Gwydion didn't bother to turn around. There was no reason for him to face someone when he couldn't see them. He wanted them to go around to face him rather than the other way around. His stubborness told of this very well. "You, my dear," he said in a slightly louder voice than a few moments ago. "You are the bothersome one. The one who is going to ruin my little walk. Though I doubt that there is anything on the other side of these lands anyways." He lowered his wings slightly so that they wrapped around the bottom part of his belly, hiding some of the rib-bones that covered his sides.

"Like them? They're my mother's. Plucked from her rotting body torn to death by my evil brother. Even though I had a small part in her death, I played no part in taking that plan into motion. I morne for her everyday and everyday these bones get heavier with my burden. Shall you add to this burden, too?" he asked Zara curiously, interested in her reaction to his little 'tale'. Many ran away from him, though some had a little bit of pity for him. He hated those who pitied him. He had to pay for the price of his mother's murder, even though he himself never touched her body and made her blood spill on the dusty ground.

"So, you are the only one out here to guard the borders of your so called herd territories?"

"Only death," she answered, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth and letting out an exhasperated sigh that was cut short by a quick movement forwards.

"Oh, your mothers, eh?" she said, the corners of her mouth curling slightly. "You in love with her? That why you carry her with you at all times, so you can never forg--" She chuckled to herself lightly and bowed her head, sucking in air. "Forgive me, my imagination carries me away."

Her parents, both of them, still lived. Was this the fate of those that were not Jala? To have both those who raised them slain by their own kind? It was so fitting a punishment, though she had to confess, it would have been much more amusing if a Reya had sat before her letting their life dwindle away.

"Burdens, tch," she scorned. "There is no such thing." You had to have a conscience to bear a burden. These things were only mental.

"Guard?" she chuckled lightly. "You are naive, but to be expected of the uneducated." She bit her tongue. "I'm sorry, getting away with myself again."

She paused to ruffle her wings. "I'm Zara," and she added a smile.

"Ah, death. The next great lands to venture to. I have dreamed of death many times, though Death hadn't the courage to pluck me from this word yet. Fear, agony, or maybe curiousity is what Death is keeping me on this god-forsaken lands. Which of the three is unknown to me," he said, his voice strangely detached from his body. He gazed up at the sky, as if looking at something that only he could see.

He flicked an ear in the mare's direction as he let a low chuckle escape his maw. "Indeed it does, little one. Indeed it does. Love can only go so far. A mother's love is the most strongest of them all. But I had none from my mother. No, she never loved me nor my older brother. It was my sister whom I have grown an attraction to. It is my mother's bone that I carry for her bitterness towards me was the strongest. It is a reminder of her and her hateful ways...also it is a reminder of my brother and of what he did to my hateful mother." He knew that his mother was slain, but he had no notion as to where his father dwelled. It seemed that his father loved one-night stands and may never have known that he had offspring with one, or maybe several, one-night stand mares, his mother being one of them.

"Your heart is not tainted yet for burden...but soon it will be," Gwydion replied with the same voice as before, though it seemed more detached than before. "Everyone has burden in their hearts. They just don't know it yet." Another chuckle escaped the maw of the Aeri before he slowly began to turn around.

"Then tell me, a non-Jala, what you are? An offspring of high class Jala or of low class? Or maybe a mixture of the two? Perhaps a high-ranking Jala is what you are?" He canted his head to one side as he stopped in his tracks, his body facing Zara. When he heard her name being told, he smirked slightly. How easily one gives out their name to a stranger. He dared not give his name, but it was commom curtosy to say ones own name when another gives their own. "Gwydion," he said in a low voice.

She was caught of guard, then, and it was moment enough for her to roll her eyes. Oh, how angsty, she would just grant his wish now if she wanted. "Its really not that hard to commit suicide, you know. Cut of your wings, I spy a cliff over there." She didn't even have to squint.

The shock returned again at 'it was my sister'. How utterly grotesque. "Just another pile of bones." Better let them rest, or they'll stalk you with burdens. Just as Jala's bones had turned to dust.

"If they have hearts," she said with a plaintive yawn. She possessed only greed and, perhaps, distaste.

"And if I am not Jala at all?" she cooed creatively, noting the way he didn't quite look at her head as many did. He couldn't pinpoint the exact location of her eyes. Blind.

"Suicide? Too easy," he muttered under his breath, though that wasn't the way that Gwydion wanted to die. He wanted to either die by his brother's hooves or kill his brother under his own. Whichever came first, of course. Though killing his brother and then dying was worth the wait, too, though Gwydion would have to wait to cross that bridge when the time came.

Gwydion shook off the mare's next comment. She could never get love if it was staring at her in front of her face. Gwydion sighed slightly as his thoughts wandered to his sister, nearly missing the mare's next statement. "All of us have hearts-some are just too tainted to be recognizable. How could you live if you didn't have a heart?" He chuckled at his own question.

So, she finally picked up on his blindness. He smirked wider. "You Jala seem to have this sort of attitude that screams 'I am better than any other Nequus here'. Am I right?"

Too easy? Nothing was too easy. So he wanted something else, then. Something he was hiding. It didn't really matter to her. What mattered was what could be gained from this event. So far, it was talk. A talk that went back and forth with no returning benefit. She'd change it, or make her game stop by physical force. Whichever came first.

"You don't need a heart to live, just that thing that beats in your chest." If you were speaking metaphorically that is.

"Not much different than your own, I presume?" she said with a cocked eyebrow. "The difference is, we actually are." It was true, oh yes, and she'd be here to initiate his beating if it came to it. In fact, his insolence was what saved him.

But she wouldn't kill him even if he turned into some sort of boring object. Oh no, not after he admited that's what he wanted. She'd kill his brother for him, that was it. Surely he wanted revenge? To take that away, well it would mean his death would have been pointless.

Surely the Katilenuck were wrong in the other's eyes. What a better way to start bitterness than to end a wrong with a wrong.

[-stabs short post- gomen. ^^;]

Gwydion remained silent for a while, slightly ignoring the mare's statements. Despite him being sightless, he could tell that this environment was different than the others he traveled through. Perhaps this is the place he had been searching for? Or maybe not since the Jala had taken over this place ages ago.

Then, out of the blue, Gwydion spoke up, after being silent for nearly ten full minutes. "I like this place. I think I might stay here," he blurted out in a calm, slightly excited voice. His sister could wait. This place peaked his interest greatly and he was going to stay-Jala or no Jala.

"I think your wishes for death may arrive sooner than you think," she said with a smirk and left him to his blind self.

She'd inform the others of his presence and nothing more. The queen might be partial to him as a slave, perhaps another would be. It mattered little to her, but he'd just initiated a dangerous game of chess.

((No matter. XD ::combats it with HER OWN short post:: ))
