This is a re=post of my thread in the Shopping District, because I can't figure out where I should post it.

First off, sorry if this is the wrong area to post. I figured Shopping District was appropriate. I need some help created my first detailed SteamPunk outfit.

I'm looking for fake raptor feathers [preferably something that looks like red tail hawk feathers, but I'm not going to be picky at this point], or something of similar large size. I can't find anywhere online that sells them.

I also have a piece that needs to be tailored because I don't have a sewing machine, and it's very complicated. If anyone has experience going to a seamstress or anything for something complicated please give me some tips.

A fake hair bun. Preferably a rather large one. Can't find one anywhere. I know they exist, I've seen one before.

Cheap hair falls. Also possibly a tutorial on how to put them in as I've never worn them before.

A vegan cincher [an underbust corset that doesn't use any animal products like leather, wool, silk, fur, bone, etc.]. I've had no luck, they all have silk or leather in them.

I'm looking for a way to mod a pair of shoes I already own so that they have metal fronts [like the gunner boots on Gaia (I couldn't find an RL example)]

Some way to get a gear pattern onto clothing, like an iron-on or something like that. Embroidery is probably not an option, because I wouldn't have the first clue how to go about that.

I know that's a lot of stuff I'm asking for, but hopefully you can help me on some of it. heart Thanks for whoever tries.

EDIT

Looking for Flare Legwarmers please!!
heart

Looking for ones like these, but less expensive.
Patterns work as well.
Thanks!

Cogs, though it is embroidery. >.< Embroidery isn't terribly hard, but maybe as a last resort? I'm actually thinking of finding plastic/shrinky dink gears and such to sew onto one of my lil monster's sweaters, that way it can get washed. I might just embroider them though, so he won't try to rip them off. (Edit: Whoops, I just read the other thread you post. You've already got that link I guess and have the gears covered. >.<)

I dunno exactly where to find feather, but I'm pretty sure like plastic ones are made. I feel like I've seen them before. Check out a site like Etsy to attempt to find cheap hair falls. I'm to understand they're not that hard to make. Maybe search for dread/hair fall DIY/tutorial or something similar.

Oh oh! I just thought of something for the gear pattern. I'm talking from memory, but you can buy this paper that you print on (like from an inkjet) and iron-on designs from that paper to clothes. Maybe check out the HP site? I'm almost positive they have some sort of special paper to do that with.

Sorry that I don't have anything exact to show you. Good luck with your searches!

i dont know exactly what kind of feathers your looking for but this site may be of some help to you, they sell costume feathers and the like.

http://www.tonyhill.net/

Edit: after re-reading your post i think that site may not have what you want, but i also found this site offering imitation eagle, owl and hawk feathers, and they do have imitation redtail hawk feathers. i hope thats what you were looking for. the prices seem a bit on the steep side, but they do look quite nice.

http://www.siouxspecialties.com/

(i half admit after looking at some of those feathers i was half tempted to get some for myself, altho i have no idea what i would use them for. whee )

Thank you but I'm looking for completely artificial feathers, not just dyed turkey feathers. I really appreciate your effort though, thank you

*sigh* I had a commission all set up but then the lady told me it would be $250 total. So that's not happening.

Looking for a reasonable person to commission my jacket again now. gonk

I'm going to get with my friend who is a seamstress about making patterns for those type of legwarmers. I can ask her about jackets, as well, but she's never done commissions for people online.

As a seamstress myself, I can say that $250 may be completely reasonable, depending on what you need of course. Materials alone for decent quality clothing are quite expensive without a good wholesale hookup, and I'd be suspicious of anyone taking commissions who's not willing to pay herself a fair estimated hourly wage.

But then again, depending on what you want it may be way off base as well. Let me know what you specifically need tailored... I'm not taking commisions at the moment, but I can probably help you figure out a fair price.

For hairfalls, check out the livejournal community Fakehair. They have tutorials in the memories section, links to reccomended vendors,, and if I'm not mistaken also a list of vendors to avoid. In general, falls are cheap to make, but pretty labor intensive. Buying them can be pretty spendy, and there's a lot of really crap work out there... so if you're at all crafty, its worth checking out the tutorials and making your own.

These may not be exactly up to par with what you are looking for, but they are spats [and who doesn't love spats?] so perhaps you could alter them? If you are so inclined that is.

Spats be here.

As far as the cheap hair falls are concerned I would suggest making your own. You can buy any color yaki hair, in bulk, for a fairly reasonable price [depending upon where you reside, of course] and hen make your own. If you want dreaded falls this is a good link for how to make them you should click here.

Purchasing already made falls may work if you are willing to spend a large sum, otherwise I recommend making them yourself [particularly if they are dreads, as dreads are not too difficult to make, at least for me].
