A teenage girl nicknamed "Green" is put through agony when her whole family dies in town one day. She wanted to go into town, but sadly every farm childs parents died. The local church even put her under the dead people's names. She takes this as a new start. Every day she tattoos something new on her body and sews thorns on her boots and jacket and cuts her long gorgeous black hair. And outsider comes in one day to her house and she takes him in. The problem is he might be one of the "enemies". Will she go back into being the sweet Green that everyone knew and loved or will she stay harsh and crude?

This is one of the only books I've ever bothered to read more than once (more like 13 times), mostly because its short (and therefore not in the way of work), beautifully written, and packed with subtle meaning. I remember seeing it on the floor my 7th grade year at a booksale and picking it up. ninja
