Is a question that sometimes some gamers think when they look at some of their library as they want to play some games on unknown/unsuccessful consoles.
As we know, some consoles just sucked a**. We know that we can look at the Atari 5200, Virtua-Boy, and even the Sega CD.
But really who fault is it? There are some cases where the price is too high, the games aren't good enough, the console stinks or even the controller does as well.
That being said, what caused these failures?
(Don't count the Dreamcast.) >>;
So yea, talk about at least one console that went down the drain.

I know you don't want me to mention it, but what exactly IS it that caused the Dreamcast's downfall? Because I vaguely remember playing Sonic on it and loving it.

X-Legends-Never-Die-X I know you don't want me to mention it, but what exactly IS it that caused the Dreamcast's downfall? Because I vaguely remember playing Sonic on it and loving it. There were many things. 1. It came out really a bit too soon. 9/09/99 to be exact. 2. Very poor marekting. 3. In 2001 it got crushed by the PS2. 4. 2002 Dreamcast got discontinued 5. Sega started to lose a lot of money because of the Dreamcast. 6. Even at $300 it was expensive.

Many many times it's name and brand that sell it. People liked the Sony gaming brand better than the Sega gaming brand. Both have great games and there have been Sega games that have been forgotten due to that. Everything I had heard about the Dreamcast was positive. (except a few cheap shots from a select few) I guess price could have been part of it but compare it to the prices of the other consoles at the time. It was a very competitive gaming market.
I guess we could ask the question "What makes one console succeed over the rest and why and whether it's luck or very precise marketing campaigns, etc that ultimately leads to it's success and other's failures (I don't like to use that term because the "losers" aren't necessarily failures.) We can ask whether it has to do with Quantity vs Quality with games, etc.."

Additionally, Sega released the console after a string of failures with the Sega CD, the Saturn and probably more. With those failures, the Dreamcast was launched as kind of a final card for Sega as they were already in the hole finacially.

Goes to show you the best console don't always succeed. It was said Dreamcast was better than all the other consoles it was competing with.

Certainly, but probably not better than the Xbox of the Cube.

HistoryWak Good sales could have brought that up though. Goes to show you the best console don't always succeed. It was said Dreamcast was better than all the other consoles it was competing with. But... failure after failure, who wants to go out and buy a console from a company with a straight loosing streak? D:
Plus, $300 was a lot of money to spend on a console back then. If you think about it, it's only $100 cheaper than a PS3, and look how much more advanced the PS3 is.
As for "Best Console".... I think it had pockets-of-success, depending on what region you lived in. I hear a lot of hype about it on Gaia from a handful of users, but offline, I only knew one person who had one.

It's best games were all rather shallow (Power Stone, Crazy Taxi) and it's controller was downright awful.
